Salem, VA (June 13, 2013) - Despite a superhuman effort by the Salem Red Sox grounds crew, the playing surface at LewisGale Field was unplayable on Thursday evening, forcing the postponement of Salem and Lynchburg's scheduled doubleheader. The two teams will play a twin-bill on Friday at 5:30 and on Sunday at 1 PM. Saturday's scheduled 6:05 start will continue as planned with just one game.

The tarp was covering the infield and bolted down with countless stakes, sacks of sand, and even a couple John Deere mowers. But winds of nearly 70 miles an hour powerfully uprooted a section of the tarp, whipping it off part of the infield. The accompanying downpour left much of the diamond overly saturated. Salem's grounds crew worked feverishly to attempt to make it game-ready, but it was estimated that 9 PM was the earliest that the field might be worthy for game action. Rather than have fans wait around until late at night, the decision was made to reschedule Thursday's games for later on this weekend.

The Salem Sox will now finish their first half with five games in three days. Righthander Kyle Stroup and lefthander Mickey Pena will be the starting pitchers on Friday night.

Fans with tickets for Thursday's doubleheader can exchange them for any other remaining home game in the 2013 season.
