Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

OVERVIEW ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are celebrating their 15th Anniversary season on the Grand Strand and are in their third season as the Advanced-A affiliates of the Texas Rangers. More than 3 million fans have attended a regular season Pelicans game since the franchise's inception in 1999. The team has won more than 1,000 regular season games in the last 15 seasons.

LAST NIGHT ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans won their sixth straight game Wednesday, racing past the Frederick Keys 5-1 at TicketReturn.com Field. The Pelicans had five players with two hits in support of Luke Jackson who earned his team-leading sixth win. The Birds tallied 27 hits in the final two games of the series.

PLAYOFFS ... With Winston-Salem's loss against Lynchburg, the Pelicans are two games up in the division. The Birds have five scheduled games left which would bring them to 69 first half games. The Dash have four remaining games and would play 70 first half games. If somehow the Pelicans and Dash end up with the same winning percentage, the Pelicans would own the head-to-head having won 4-of-6 head-to-head matchups.

STREAKING ... The Pelicans are one win away from a seventh straight triumph which would match the team's longest winning streak of the season. During the current six-game winning streak, the Pelicans are averaging six runs per game and have posted a .308 batting average. Heating up - the Pelicans are hitting .309 in their last five games.

TRENDING ... Edwin Garcia is hitting .333 in the month of June to raise his batting average up to .266 for the season. The Pelicans are hitting .255 during the month and are averaging 4.25 runs per game.

UP NEXT ... Tonight is "Super Hero Night" presented by Massage Envy Spa. It will also be a Thirsty Thursday with $1 beers from 6-8 p.m. presented by Better Brands and Celebrations Nightlife. The night will also feature postgame fireworks. Tomorrow is a Fiesta Friday - fans can enjoy Abuelo's cuisine at the ballpark all night long.

COACHING STAFF ... Jason Wood returns for his third season as the Pelicans skipper and his fifth as a coach in the Rangers system. He is the only Carolina League skipper to have guided his team to back-to-back postseasons in 2011 and 2012. His staff includes pitching coach Steve Mintz, hitting coach Josue Perez and assistant Humberto Miranda - all three in their first year with the Birds.

ON THE AIR ... All 140 Myrtle Beach Pelicans games in 2013 can be heard on Fox Sports Radio on the Grand Strand (AM 1050 and FM 101.9). Video for all 70 home games is available online at www.milb.tv.
