Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (37-28), Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Texas Rangers, won their seventh straight game Thursday, clipping the Carolina Mudcats 3-1 in front of a season-best 4,864 fans at TicketReturn.com Field.

At the time of this release, the Winston-Salem Dash are still in progress with Wilmington, so the Pelicans magic number sits at two. Any combination of Pelicans wins and Dash losses that equals two would clinch a first half playoff spot for the Birds. After today, the Pelicans play four more games and the Dash play three.

Right-hander Jerad Eickhoff (5-3) snagged the win, firing seven scoreless innings with four hits allowed. The righty walked two and struck out four. Ryan Harvey entered with the potential tying runs aboard in the ninth inning and notched the game's final three outs to earn his third save.

The Pelicans scored three runs in the third inning to take the early lead. Joe Maloney started the scoring with an RBI single and Drew Robinson capped the rally with a two-run double.

Trailing 3-0, the Muddies got a run on a Charlie Valerio RBI hit in the ninth inning off Will Lamb. The left-hander worked a scoreless eighth inning but allowed three straight hits before exiting in the ninth.

The Pelicans stranded the bases loaded in the third inning. The team went 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight on base.

The Pelicans are currently riding their second seven-game winning streak of the first half.

The Pelicans continue a four-day, five-game series Friday with the Carolina Mudcats at TicketReturn.com Field. Right-hander Alec Asher (4-4, 3.23) will be opposed by Mudcats right-hander Michael Peoples (0-1, 4.58). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. EST.

Tomorrow night is a "Fiesta Friday" featuring food from Abuelo's. Saturday will be an iPad cover giveaway for the first 1,000 fans presented by Sheriar Press. Tickets are available online at www.myrtlebeachpelicans.com or by phone at 918-6000.
