San Angelo Saints News Release

Coming Up This Week – The Saints have a full slate of games this week starting Tuesday when they host the Corpus Christi Rayz. Thursday the Saints travel to Lubbock and then play host to the Cotton Kings on Friday night before heading to New Mexico to finish out the week against the Scorpions on Saturday night. Week In Review – The Saints went 1-2-0 this week with home win over Amarillo, a home loss to Bossier-Shreveport and a road loss to Corpus Christi.

Saints in the City – The Saints players have finished up their Accelerated Reader Awards Programs and Grades for Blades Awards Ceremonies in our local elementary schools. This week several players will be back in the elementary schools to pep talk students for the state TAKS Tests.

February 28th / Amarillo 1 - San Angelo 3 / The Saints scored just 41 seconds into the game as Steve Roberts tallied early on a nice feed from Kelly Miller. The Gorillas tied the game 6 minutes later, but Chris Peach's power-play goal put the Saints up for good at 14:41 of the 1st period. Goaltender Scott Reid earned the #1 Star of the Game with a 51 save performance that held the Gorillas at bay until Kori Davison iced the win with a goal at 19:59 of the 3rd period.

March 1st / Bossier-Shreveport 6 - San Angelo 2 / Despite the Saints controlling much of the action in the 1st period, the Mudbugs led 1-0 heading into the 2nd. That's when the wheels fell off for the Saints as the Mudbugs scored 4 2nd period goals around Kelly Miller's tally for the Saints to make it 5-1 going into the 3rd. Jason Abel added a goal for the Saints but it was too little, too late as the Mudbugs went on to win 6-2.

March 2nd / San Angelo 0 - Corpus Christi 7 / After an evenly played and scoreless 1st period, the Rayz came out smoking in the 2nd period with 4 unanswered goals. Three more goals in the 3rd period put the game away as the leg-weary Saints could not find a way to beat Rayz goalie Brent Belecki who had 33 saves for the shut-out.

Playoff Picture – The Saints have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs for this season. However, with 3 games left against Lubbock, 2 with Corpus Christi and 1 with New Mexico – the Saints can play a large role as spoiler in determining who actually does make the playoffs out of the Southern conference.

Injury Report – Forwards Jeff Cheeseman and Jan Jas remain on injured reserve. Goaltender Bryce Wandler is questionable for this week's games after suffering a minor injury on Sunday afternoon.
