Saints Week in Review

November 11, 2002 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
San Angelo Saints News Release

Coming Up This Week – The Saints continue their torrid early-season schedule with four more games this week. Odessa comes to town Tuesday and then the Saints hit the road for games at Austin on Friday and at Laredo on Saturday. The week ends with a home tilt against New Mexico on Sunday.

Week In Review – The Saints went 1-2-0 this week with a 6-3 win over Corpus Christi on Friday, a 6-3 loss at Corpus Christi on Saturday and a 4-1 loss to Memphis on Sunday

Friday, Nov. 8th / San Angelo 6 - Corpus Christi 3 / The Saints got 2-goals each from Ryan Reid and Brad Cook and tallied 5 power-play goals for the 6-3 victory. Troy Mann added a goal and 3 assists and Chris Peach had a goal and 2 assists to help lead the charge. The IceRays got two goals from Ken Richardson to keep the game close until the Saints pulled away in the 3rd period.

Saturday, Nov. 9th / Corpus Christi 6 - San Angelo 3 / The IceRays returned the favor Saturday night as Ken Richardson's hat-trick led them to a 6-3 win and a split of the home-and-home weekend series. Shaun Fairweather also pitched in a goal and 2 assists for the ‘Rays. The Saints actually led the game 1-0 and 2-1, but the IceRays pulled ahead with 3 goals in the 2nd period and 3 more goals in the 3rd for the win. The game also featured 116 total PIMs on 26 infractions – most of them roughing and fighting.

Sunday, Nov. 10th / San Angelo 1 - Memphis 4 / The Saints and Riverkings played pretty even through two periods, but two goals by the ‘Kings Don Parson in the 3rd period sealed the game for Memphis. Saints goaltender Jamie Ronayne helped keep his team in the game with save after save on odd-man rushes, but the Saints tired a bit in the 3rd and Parsons took advantage for two easy goals. Jean-Francois Racine was also excellent in goal for Memphis, with only a late goal by the Saints' Chris Peach averting the shut-out.

Injury Report – The Saints have been playing short-handed since Oct. 25th. Forwards Jamie Thompson, Jason Abel and Blake Sheane have all been missing due to various injuries and Sheane had to be waived due to immigration problems. But, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. Thompson could skate Tuesday against Odessa and Abel is expected back for this weekend's games against Austin and Laredo. Sheane's return depends on him getting back across the border – and some more time on injured reserve.

League Leaders – Despite a couple of losses this week the Saints still lead the CHL in Goals, Assists, Points, Power-Play Goals For, PIMs and 10-minute misconducts.
