SCORPIONS RECAP –

SCORPIONS 3, LAREDO 2 (SO) – Pete Brearley scored the only goal of the shootout and Luciano Caravaggio stopped all five Laredo skaters as the Scorpions took a 3-2 win over the expansion Bucks. Arturs Kupaks scored his first goal of the season and added an assist, while fellow defenseman Mario Dumoulin also scored. Caravaggio had a strong game in net with 37 saves in regulation in addition to his sterling play in the shootout. The game was marred by 183 penalty minutes, 91 to the Scorpions and 82 against Laredo. LUBBOCK 6, SCORPIONS 0 – After finishing Friday's game with just 10 skaters, the trip to Lubbock was too much for the tired Scorpions as the Cotton Kings took a 6-0 win. Scott Myers made 30 saves in goal before giving way to Luciano Caravaggio midway through the third period. TULSA 3, SCORPIONS 2 – The Oilers jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the second period and made it stand up in a 3-2 win, handing the Scorpions their first loss of the season at Tingley Coliseum. Tobin Praznik had a goal and assist to lead the Scorpions, while Craig Stahl netted his first goal of the season. Luciano Caravaggio had another strong game in goal with 27 saves. The Scorpions gave a strong effort despite playing their third game in three nights with a depleted lineup. SCORPIONS MATCH-UPS –

EL PASO – The Buzzards come into Friday's game after dropping a pair of games to Laredo at home over the weekend. The losses snapped a five-game unbeaten streak for the Buzzards. Jeff Scharf (8g-4a) and Russ Guzior (4g-8a) lead El Paso in scoring with 12 points apiece. Derrell Upton (8g-2a) is second in the league with five power play goals. Scharf is tied for the league lead with three shorthanded goals. Goalie Matt Carmichael has played every minute thus far for the Buzzards, posting a 2.63 GAA and .916 save percentage. El Paso handed New Mexico their first loss of the season, 4-1 in El Paso on Oct. 31. ODESSA – The Scorpions have taken a pair of 3-2 overtime victories from the Jackalopes already this season, one at Tingley Coliseum and one in Odessa. The Jackalopes are just one point ahead of the Scorpions with one fewer game played heading into Saturday's matchup. John Bossio (6g-5a) and defenseman Scott Hillman (3g-8a) lead Odessa with 11 points each. The Jackalopes are the second-least penalized team in the CHL, averaging 22 PIM per game. They are no strangers to close contests, as five of their ten games have gone to overtime (1-2 OT, 1-1 SO). Goalie Mike Gorman is in the top ten in the league (4-1-3 record, 2.31 GAA, ..923 save percentage). SAN ANGELO – Sunday's game marks the second and final visit for the Scorpions to San Angelo this season, as the Saints come to Tingley Coliseum three times, with the first not being until Dec. 28. The Scorpions were victorious in their first trip to San Angelo, a 3-2 decision on Oct. 25. Chris Peach is tied for the league lead with 17 points (5g-12a), while Troy Mann is next with 16 points (6g-10a). All six of Mann's goals have come on the power play, which tops the circuit. Defenseman Corri Moffat leads CHL blueliners with 14 points (4g-10a). The Saints are second in the league, averaging 3.5 goals per game. Winger Kori Davison is second with 106 PIM, and the Saints are third as a team. SCHULZ SIGNS – The Scorpions signed Albuquerque native Jason Schulz prior to Friday's game against Laredo. The defenseman attended training camp with the club last month before signing last week. In three games this weekend, the 21 year-old recorded no points and six penalty minutes. He is the first Albuquerque native to see regular playing time for the Scorpions. MAYBE HE SHOULD SWITCH HANDS – Scorpions winger Craig Stahl scored his first goal of the season on Sunday, which normally wouldn't be a big deal. What was a big deal was that the right-handed Stahl scored with a left-handed stick. Stahl had given his stick to defenseman Leigh Dean (a left-handed shot) in the defensive zone, and as the play moved back up the ice he grabbed the first stick handed to him from the bench, from left-handed Arturs Kupaks. The play continued, Tobin Praznik passed the puck in front of the net to Stahl, and the rest, as they say, is history. STINGERS – The Scorpions have allowed two goals in each of their six victories this season... Mario Dumoulin is among the top ten defenseman in the CHL with four goals and ten points... All three of Tobin Praznik's goals have come on the power play... Pete Brearley, Peter Ambroziak and Chris Richards each have two game-winning goals for the Scorpions... The Scorpions still top the league in power play percentage at home, where they are clicking at a 35.3% rate... After playing four games in five nights on the road this week, the Scorps play 10 of the next 13 at Tingley Coliseum.
