CHL Names Week's Top Players
Published on November 11, 2002 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
Left wing Dan Wildfong of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and Indianapolis Ice goaltender Shawn Silver have been honored as the Central Hockey League's Player and Goaltender of the Week for Week 4 of the CHL season.
Veteran Wildfong is the heart and soul of a Mudbug's club that earned five out a possible six points in a three games in three nights stretch last week. Wildfong recorded points in all three outings, totaling a goal and six assists. Friday evening in Indianapolis, the 5-10, 190 pound forward set up all three Bossier-Shreveport goals, including Forbes MacPherson's overtime winner, in a 3-2 win. The following night at home, Wildfong assisted on Jason Campbell's power play goal against Odessa, before recording another three point game in the Mudbug's 6-0 win at Fort Worth on Sunday. The feisty Ontario native appeared in all 64 games for the Mudbugs last season, and was the only CHL player to record both 30 goals and 300 penalty minutes for the year.
The Indianapolis Ice have enjoyed a resurgence under new Head Coach Ken McRae, and behind outstanding goaltending from the duo of Shawn Silver and Jamie Morris, picked up five out of six possible points in three games last week. Silver earns CHL Goaltender of the Week honors after winning both ends of a home and home series with the Wichita Thunder, allowing just a single goal against in each contest. Saturday in Wichita, the Thunder Bay, Ontario native turned aside 23 of 24 Thunder shots in regulation and overtime, and stopped four of five Wichita attempts in the shootout to seal a 2-1 victory. Sunday afternoon at home, Silver again frustrated the Thunder, making 29 saves in a 2-1 win. His back-to-back performances have lowered his G.A.A. to just 2.14, with a save percentage of 92.4. This is Silver's first pro season in North America, following three years overseas.
