San Angelo Saints News Release

SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Saints today announced that forwards Taras Formsky and Kevin Vandewater have been signed to contracts and will be attending Saints Training Camp which begins October 5th.

Foremsky is a 6-1, 200-pound forward who had a brief stint playing for Saints head coach Ray Edwards at the end of the last season in Pensacola of the ECHL. In 6 games for the Ice Pilots, he notched 3 goals, 1 assist and 4 penalty minutes. Prior to playing in Pensacola, Foremsky was an all-conference performer at Mount Royal College for the 2002-2003 season and set Canadian College Athletic Conference (CCAC) records for most goals (38) and points (70) in a season. He also played briefly at Merrimack College (NCAA) in 2001-2002.

"Taras is a dynamic player," said Edwards. "He skates well and can score. From what I saw of him last season, if he continues to adapt to the pro game he can be a dominant player in this league."

"I know Ray, I know what kind of coach he is and I promised him I would come to San Angelo if I didn't return to Pensacola," said Foremsky. "I'm a high energy guy and my job has always been to put the puck in the net. I've worked very hard this summer to get in the kind of shape I need to be in to do that for the Saints."

Vandewater comes to the Saints after finishing his college playing career at the University of Manitoba. In 187 college games he recorded 66 goals, 62 assists (128 points) and 169 penalty minutes. Last season he was the 3rd leading scorer for the Bison's as they marched into the playoffs. Vandewater is regarded as a defensive forward and earned the Bison's Ability & Sportsmanship award last year.

"Kevin is another big kid who is a physical, all-around player," said Edwards. "He has scored 20 goals at a high level of college hockey and will be a power forward that hopefully can pitch in offensively."

The Saints now have 18 players signed for the 2003-2004 season and expect to add 3-5 more before the start of Training Camp. In a new twist this season, there will be no players on simple tryout agreements coming to Saints camp. Everyone in camp will be under contract until cuts are made during camp.

"We are bringing in a group of players that are all capable of playing for the Saints," said Edwards. "Having everyone under contract will help foster better competition and bring out the best in all the players as they compete for the 18 spots on our opening roster."

The Saints' 2003-2004 season begins with preseason games Oct. 10th (home) and 11th (away) against Odessa. The team's home opener is Oct. 18th against Rio Grande Valley. Season tickets and multi-game ticket and voucher packs are still available at the Saints office, 3111 Knickerbocker Road, and at the San Angelo Convention Center.
