Corpus Christi, Texas: September 10, 2003 - The Corpus Christi Rayz have released the schedule of The Corpus Christi Caller Times Best of the Best Preseason Showcase, Rayz General Manager/Senior Vice President Pat Dunn announced today. The four-team preseason showcase that features three games in three nights begins Thursday, October 9.

The Rayz, New Mexico Scorpions, Laredo Bucks and Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees will team up for the Best of the Best Showcase. The Bucks and Killer Bees will play one game, while the Rayz and Scorpions will play twice over the course of the three-day event, taking place from October 9-11. The Rayz will play their first exhibition game of the preseason against the expansion Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Friday, October 10 at 7:05pm at the Memorial Coliseum. This game will mark the first ever game for the Killer Bees. The Rayz will follow that game the next night Saturday, October 11 at 7:05pm when they play the Scorpions in a preview of the Central Hockey League opening night game set for October 16. The Saturday night game in Corpus Christi will be the Caller Times Best of the Best Game, with an all-day Best of the Best event at Memorial Coliseum leading up to the game.

The Scorpions who are owned by WD Sports, also owners of the Rayz, are holding their entire training camp in Corpus Christi. The President and CEO of WD Sports, Doug Frank, will make the trip to Corpus Christi for training camp. He will remain in Corpus through the opening night contest between his two teams, and will make himself available for interviews and conversations with the media and public. The Scorpions will get their preseason schedule underway on Thursday, October 9 when they play the Laredo Bucks at the Memorial Coliseum at 7:05pm. CHL training camp officially opens on October 6. At that time, teams are allowed to hold official practices and play CHL-sanctioned exhibition games. The Rayz are planning on inviting 20-25 players to their training camp and then cutting the roster down to the maximum allotted 18 spots for the regular season.

The preseason games follow the same format as regular season games, allowing each team to dress 18 players per game. Players will be fighting for a spot on the roster, and these games are the only tune-up before the regular season where they will get to play against outside competition. Al Sims, the Head Coach of the Rayz, knows how valuable these games and the preseason are. "The season is getting closer," said Sims. "It's exciting. I'm looking forward to seeing how the young players we're inviting are going to perform." Tickets for all three games at Memorial Coliseum are available by calling (361) 814-PUCK. Individual game tickets will also be available beginning October 1 by calling Ticketmaster at (361) 881-8499.

The Corpus Christi Rayz drop the puck on the 2003-04 Central Hockey League season on October 16, when they host the New Mexico Scorpions. Season tickets and group packages are currently available.
