Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (29-9-3-3, 64 pts) scored seven goals in the first 29 minutes of regulation to defeat the Lincoln Stars (19-20-1-2, 41 pts) 7-2 on Sunday.

The Saints opened the first period with a high-flying attack, scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes. James Reeder opened the scoring early with his first of two goals in the game at 3:43 of the first. Reeder finishes the season series against Lincoln with five goals scored in the pair of games.

Chase LaPinta added another for the Saints late in the first period to send Dubuque to the dressing room with a 3-0 lead. For LaPinta, it was his third goal and seventh point in the last five contests.

To open the second, Jake Sondreal didn't waste any time. The captain scored his 22nd goal of the season just 27 seconds into the frame to extend Dubuque's lead. Less than a minute after that, the Fighting Saints' top defense pair combined for Fisher Scott's seventh goal of the season. A few minutes later, Reeder's 18th, and second of the game, came on the power play and then Noah Powell scored his 24th and league-leading 11th power-play goal.

At that point, Dubuque led 7-0 and held a firm grasp on Sunday's contest. The game ended with the Saints' fourth-straight victory and finished a three-game weekend sweep for Dubuque. It is the second time this season Dubuque has swept a three-in-three stretch. Dubuque has 64 points to lead the Eastern Conference by eight points.

The Fighting Saints are back in action on Friday night at home to begin a home-and-home with the Madison Capitols.
