
Saints Roll 10-5 in Exhibition Opener

ST. PAUL, MN (April 28, 2008) - The St. Paul Saints knocked off the rust after a long off-season and defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs 10-5 in their exhibition opener at Midway Stadium in front of 1,338.
The Saints sent 11 men to the plate and scored six runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Brian Sprout got the scoring started in the inning with a single to left scoring Julius Thames to cut the deficit to 5-2. With the bases loaded Marcel Longmire knocked in two with a single to left. Two batters later Jason Colson walked with the bases loaded to tie the game. Kevin Sullivan gave the Saints a 6-5 lead with a single to left and Thames finished the scoring with an RBI ground out.
The Saints sent five pitchers to the hill and the last four were incredible. Luis Villarreal, Justin Lord, University of Minnesota product Craig Molldrem and Mike Bille went 7.0 shutout innings giving up five hits and striking out nine. Molldrem struck out the side in his lone inning of work.
One of the fresh faces for the Saints, catcher Christian Reyes was 2-2 with a double and an RBI.
The Saints and Saltdogs meet again Tuesday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. at Midway Stadium. The Saints will also take on the Ibaraki Golden Golds at 7:05 p.m.
