St. Paul Saints News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD (August 5, 2007) - Down to their final out after a back and forth game and the St. Paul Saints relied on a familiar face as Adam Olow came through with a clutch three-run homer to help propel the Saints to a 15-14 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries on Sunday afternoon at Sioux Falls Stadium.

With the Saints down 14-12 in the ninth the Canaries brought in the American Association leader in saves, Jerrod Fuel. With one out Marcel Longmire singled to left-center. With two outs, and down to their last strike, Fernando Valenzuela Jr. singled to right. Up stepped Adam Olow who hit an opposite field three-run homer over the right-center field wall, his third of the season, to give the Saints the 15-14 lead.

Tony Pierce came in to close the game in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs he struck out Matt Imwalle, but the ball scooted through the legs of catcher Longmire, allowing Imwalle to reach. The bizarre game finally ended when Pierce struck out Tim Marks on a ball in the dirt and Longmire threw him out at first.

The Saints pounded out 21 hits, one shy of their season high. Every hitter collected a hit with the exception of Adam Bourassa. All eight hitters who collected a hit had a multi-hit game which included Olow going 4-6 with five RBI. Skip Adams went 2-6 with a double and five RBI and Marcel Longmire was 4-5 with two singles, a double, homer, RBI and four runs scored. The Saints also added a homer from Scooter Jordan, his third of the season and he finished 3-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.

The Saints beat up on Canaries starter Pat Mahomes for eight runs on 11 hits in 3.2 innings, but he wound up with a no decision. Saints starter Adam Brandenburg gave up a 6-0 lead in the third when he allowed seven runs (four earned) in the third as the Canaries sent 11 men to the plate.

James Shanks of the Canaries was 5-6 with two RBI and two runs scored while Trevor Lawhorn was 4-6 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored.

The Saints begin a four game series against the El Paso Diablos on Monday evening at 7:05 p.m. at Midway Stadium. The Saints send RHP Charlie Ruud (8-3, 4.08) to the mound. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network and heard on KBGY 107.5 FM. It is a Salute to Tough Guys Night presented by Northern Tool + Equipment.
