St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (November 30, 2009) - It was like something out of "The Natural" last season. St. Paul Saints first baseman Jason Cooper hitting a tying home run in the 11th inning off the light tower as the Saints would go on to win a late season game. Cooper's power will return to the Saints in 2010 as manager George Tsamis inked him to a deal today.

The 28-year-old Cooper hit.288 with 11 homers and 44 RBI in 54 games. In 208 at bats he smashed 14 doubles, three triples, scored 43 runs while slugging.573 with an on base percentage of.377. He finished tied for second on the team in homers and third in RBI despite playing just over half the games during the season. Cooper was signed as a free agent on June 29 by the Saints.

"Jason did a real good job for us," said Tsamis. "He came through with some big hits with runners in scoring position. He plays the game hard and he is a great guy to have in the clubhouse"

Cooper was a third round pick by the Cleveland Indians in 2002 out of Stanford University. He played at Triple-A Buffalo in the Indians organization during part of the 2004 and 05 seasons before being a permanent mainstay at that level from 2006-08. After the Indians released him the New York Mets organization signed him in 2009 and he started the season at Triple-A Buffalo (the Indians dropped Buffalo as their affiliate and they became an affiliate of the Mets).

The Saints roster currently stands at 17 players, five pitchers and 12 position players.
