St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (August 10, 2015) - The St. Paul Saints can clinch a North Division title on Tuesday night in Sioux City against a team that is even hotter than they are at the moment. After a three-game sweep of the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Monday night, a 7-1 victory, the Saints dropped their magic number to two, improved to 58-16 and won for the 10th straight time tying the longest winning streak in a single-season. It was also their second 10 game winning streak of the season.

Coming off of a complete game, one hit shutout Robert Coe was once again masterful against the Goldeyes. He allowed just one hit through the first 6.0 innings on Monday night, a two out single to Brad Boyer in the second. His offense got him all the run support he needed in the fourth inning.

Goldeyes starter Matt Jackson retired the first eight men he faced before walking Anthony Phillips with two outs in the third and finally gave up his first hit with one out in the fourth, a single to Vinny DiFazio. Angelo Songco reached on an infield single and, with two outs, Joey Paciorek walked after falling behind 0-2. With the bases loaded Ryan Lashley also fell behind 0-2 before drawing the count full. He then ripped a bases clearing double to right-center to give the Saints a 3-0 lead. Lashley finished the night 2-3 with four RBI and a run scored.

It stayed that way until the seventh when Coe walked Reggie Abercrombie with two outs and gave up an RBI double to Boyer to make it 3-1.

The Saints responded in the bottom of the inning with three more of their own. Lashley led off with a single to center and was sacrificed to second. Anthony Phillips singled to left putting runners at the corners with one out. Alonzo Harris made it 5-1 with a two-run double down the left field line. Dan Kaczrowski then singled to right center and the ball skipped under the glove of Abercrombie allowing Harris to score making it 6-1.

In the eighth Coe appeared to tire after falling behind in the count to the first two hitters, giving up a leadoff single to Ryan Babineau and getting Adam Heisler to fly out to left. He departed for reliever Mike Zouzalik who retired the only two men he faced. Coe went 7.1 innings allowing one run on three hits while walking three and striking out five while improving to 8-3 and lowering his ERA to 2.77.

The Saints can clinch the North Division with a win on Tuesday night against the Sioux City Explorers, who are 54-18 and have won 13 straight, and a Winnipeg loss at home against the Sioux Falls Canaries. The Saints begin the three game series against the Explorers at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday night at Lewis and Clark Park. The Saints send RHP Dustin Crenshaw (12-1, 1.97) against Explorers RHP Eric Wordekemper (4-2, 5.44). The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
