St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (March 20, 2008) - The St. Paul Saints franchise is rich in tradition and history. The organization dates back to the early 1900s and has seen famous stars like Leo Durocher, Roy Campanella, Duke Snider, and Darryl Strawberry wear the uniform. In celebration of Minnesota's 150th Birthday and the role that baseball has played in those 150 years, the Saints have scheduled a game in one of the State's the most historic ballparks, Jack Ruhr Field in Miesville.
The Saints will take on the Sioux Falls Canaries, in an exhibition game, on Friday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. It will be the first game played by the Saints at the historic ballpark.
Much of Minnesota's baseball history has played out on "townball" fields around the State. Jack Ruhr Field and its home team, the five-time state champion Miesville Mudhens, represent the role amateur baseball has played in Minnesota. The ballpark is immortalized in three separate pieces by famed sports artist, Terrence Fogarty.
"Saints fans come from all-over the state of Minnesota and this is a great opportunity to take our club to someone else's backyard," said Saints Executive Vice President and General Manager Derek Sharrer. "We didn't feel that we could truly celebrate the history of baseball in our State without paying tribute to "townball" and what it has meant. It should be an incredible night of history, baseball and fun."
The evening will include festivities based around the 150 years of statehood along with all the pomp and circumstance of a Saints game, as well as a fireworks display following the game.
Tickets for the event are $3 for kids in advance and $4 at the gate while adults are $5 in advance and $6 at the gate. Fans can purchase tickets by going to saintsbaseball.com and clicking on the "Miesville Game" link on the team's homepage.
