Wichita Wingnuts News Release


WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts fell 5-4 to the St. Paul Saints on Friday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

With Patrick Brooks representing the tying run on second with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Mario Delgado singled through the right side. Brooks came around third and was ruled out on a close play at home plate following Brent Krause's throw from right field. The play kept the Saints in front by one run before Hunter Davis worked a scoreless ninth to earn the save.

Eric Williams scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Thompson in the bottom of the first to give the Wingnuts a 1-0 lead. The Wingnuts added a run in the third on an RBI groundout by Mario Delgado.

The Saints rallied for four runs against Luke Massetti in the top of the fourth. Brent Krause tied the game with a two-run home run to left-center field. Back-to-back two-out, RBI singles from Steve Butler and Steve Mays gave St. Paul a 4-2 lead.

Wichita scratched out another run in the fourth on an RBI fielder's choice from Ryan Patterson. The teams then traded runs in the fifth. Brent Krause delivered a two-out RBI single to score Jason cooper from second base. A throwing error by Butler at third base in the bottom half of the inning scored Chris Colton from second. Colton reached on a walk and moved into scoring position on a stolen base.

Massetti worked five innings while taking the loss, allowing five earned runs on nine hits. Massetti struck out two and did not allow a walk. Saints' starter Jason Godin picked up the win. Godin allowed four runs, two earned in five innings, allowing five hits and walking five with two strikeouts.

Doug Hurn, Dustin Pease, and Matt Petty combined for four shutout innings out of the Wingnuts' bullpen. Eric Williams drew three walks and connected for a double in the sixth, reaching base in eight consecutive plate appearances before being retired in the eighth. Wichita left 12 runners on base.
