St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The good feelings from the St. Paul Saints eight game win streak are long gone as they dropped their fourth straight game losing 12-5 to the Wichita Wingnuts on Saturday night at Midway Stadium in front of 6,220.

For the second straight night a big inning early on was enough to do in the Saints. With the Wingnuts leading 1-0 in the third a five run outburst proved costly. With one out Jake Kahaulelio singled to center and David Espinosa walked. Brent Clevlen the deposited one over the left-center field wall, his 10th of the season and first of the night, to make it 4-0 Wingnuts. With two outs Chris McMurray doubled and scored on a single by Chris McClendon to make it 5-0. McClendon would steal second, advance to third on a single by David Amberson and score on a wild pitch to make it 6-0.

The Saints would get on the board in the bottom of the inning on a solo homer by Jake Taylor, his third of the season, to make it 6-1.

With the Saints trailing 8-1 in the sixth they mounted a comeback and looked to grab the momentum. Devin Thaut led off with a single and with one out he scored on an RBI double by Willie Cabrera. He finished the night 2-3 with a double and RBI while extending his hitting streak to 14. Henry Wrigley followed with a walk and Angelo Songco's RBI single made it 8-3. Evan Bigley's infield single knocked home Wrigley to make it 8-4. The Saints would get no closer, however, as the Wingnuts responded in the seventh courtesy of an error and a long ball.

With two outs Kahaulelio singled, stole second and moved to third on the wild pitch while stealing second. Espinosa's grounder to short was bobbled by Joey Becker allowing Kahaulelio to score and making it 9-4. Clevlen then crushed one over the left field wall, his second of the night and 11th of the season, to put the game away.

Sam Maus extended his streak of reaching base safely to 30 games with a walk in the ninth inning.

The same two teams meet in the finale of the three game series on Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Anthony Claggett (5-4, 2.46) to the mound against Wingnuts RHP Jason Van Skike (8-3, 2.84). The Saints will induct Twins Vice President, Player Personnel, Mike Radcliff into the Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame presented by Killebrew Root Beer. The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB and in the ballpark on 87.9 FM.
