St. Paul Saints News Release
WINNIPEG, MB (July 15, 2014, but really June 14, 2014) - The St. Paul Saints went back in time and didn't like what they saw. After the June 14 game was halted due to rain in the bottom of the third the St. Paul Saints and Winnipeg Goldeyes resumed the game on Tuesday at Shaw Park and the Saints were blanked for the first time this season 4-0.
With the Saints trailing 1-0 in the fourth they loaded the bases in their first at bat after the postponement. Deving Thaut singled to center, Joe Bonfe doubled him to third and Evan Bigley walked. The next three hitters, however, couldn't cash in with Angelo Songco and Joey Becker striking out and Jake Taylor flying out to center to end the inning.
That gave the Goldeyes all the momentum they needed to add to their lead. In the bottom of the inning Donnie Webb walked, stole second and advanced to third on a single by Josh Mazzola. Reggie Abercrombie's fielder's choice plated Webb to give the Goldeyes a 2-0 lead.
The Goldeyes added two more in the seventh both with two outs. Tyler Kuhn drew a walk and scored on a triple from Jake Blackwood. After a walk to Brock Bond, Luis Alen singled home Blackwood.
