Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS (July 15, 2014) - With the best record in the American Association through 56 games, the Wichita Wingnuts were already well-represented in the midsummer classic which will take place July 29th at Winnipeg's Shaw Park. Even though there were six players from the Wingnuts' current roster selected to play for the South Division's entry, there were plenty of other deserving individuals left off the team. One of those players, second baseman Jake Kahaulelio, found out on Tuesday that he will join the group of Wingnuts headed north of the border, as the starting second baseman.

The 29-year old has played in all, but three games this season and is hitting .325 with four home runs and a team-leading 42 RBI. Kahaulelio has an on-base percentage of .406 and has drawn 17 bases on balls. The Petaluma, California native leads the league in being hit by pitches and is third in the league with 20 doubles in 2014. Kahaulelio has more assists than any other second baseman in the league and has committed just three errors this year.

In his third season in Wichita, Kahaulelio has already been named the American Association's All-Star second baseman following each of his first two years, 2012 and 2013. He entered this year as the Wingnuts' all-time career leader in on-base percentage and fielding percentage by a second baseman.

The position opened up for Kahaulelio when Travis Denker of Laredo, the league's home run and RBI leader, could not attend the event. The Wingnuts now have more all-stars, seven, than any of the other 13 teams participating in the game. The game takes place on Tuesday, July 29th at 7:00 p.m. in Winnipeg.

For information on season tickets, group outings, and party packages, call the Wingnuts' main office at (316) 264-NUTS, or visit the Wingnuts' official website at www.wichitawingnuts.com.
