Saginaw Spirit Fall to Windsor Spitfires 8-5

The Saginaw Spirit fell to the Windsor Spitfires 8-5 on the road at the WFCU Centre on Thursday night.

The Spitfires opened the scoring 37 seconds into the first period on a goal by Chris Marchese, with the lone assist going to Logan Brown. Windsor followed suit a few minutes later at 3:01 of the period by Mark Manchurek, assisted by Jalen Chatfield pulling the score to 2-0 Spitfires. Slater Doggett put the score to 3-0 for the Spitfires at 6:13, with the help of Luke Kirwan. The Saginaw Spirit saw their first goal at 13:36 by Jimmy Lodge, to make the score 3-1. Luke Cairns and Dylan Sadowy assisted the play. The Windsor Spitfires scored their fourth goal on a wrist shot by Trevor Murphy at 18:06 of the period. Assists went to Mark Manchurek and Aaron Luchuk. Shots on goal after the first favored Windsor 20-11.

The Saginaw Spirit dominated the second period by scoring three goals to tie the game against the Windsor Spitfires. Saginaw's Artem Artemov had an early second period goal at 3:31, with assists by Nick Moutrey and Tye Felhaber. Artemov then scored his second goal of the night on a single-handed shot at the 13:02 mark. The Spirit tied the game at 4-4 on a goal by Brandon Prophet at 14:03. Assists on the play went to Jimmy Lodge and Dylan Sadowy. Shots on goal after the second Saginaw 14, Windsor 12.

Windsor beat starting goaltender Jake Paterson early in the third period on a goal by Josh Ho-Sang at the 1:21 mark. The lone assist on the goal went to Logan Brown. Saginaw retaliated with a goal by Dylan Sadowy, tying the score 5-5 at 6:02 of the period. Artem Artemov and Nick Moutrey assisted the play. The Spitfires pulled ahead of the Spirit on a lone goal by Josh Ho-Sang at 8:30, putting the score at 6-5 Windsor. Windsor added two more goals to the board by Slater Doggett (14:22) and Logan Brown (18:59), to end the game 8-5 Spitfires. Final shots on goal favored Windsor 45-34.

The Saginaw Spirit will return to the Dow Event Center Saturday, October 18 for the St. Mary's of Michigan/Consumers Energy Pink Out Breast Cancer Awareness game against the Kitchener Rangers. Puck is set to drop at 7:35 p.m.
