CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Power-hitting outfielder Ray Sadler and versatile lefty Josh Muecke will be honored at Tuesday's South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet as the Hooks Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. The awards are part of a series of presentations recognizing the performances of players at the high school, collegiate and professional levels.

Sadler had his most productive season as a pro in 2007. Topping the club with 24 home runs and 93 RBI's, he was named Hooks MVP by the Astros and was one of two Corpus Christi players voted onto the Texas League post-season All-Star Team. His 93 RBI's led the league and was the most for any Astros farmhand. Sadler's homer output was second-best in the league and the Astros system. Both totals were the second-best single-season numbers by a Hook, just shy of Hunter Pence's 28 HR's and 95 RBI's in 2006.

Starting at all three positions in the outfield, Sadler also led the circuit in games (138), total chances for an outfielder (337) and sacrifice flies (8). The all-around athlete was the club's defensive player of the month in April, May and August, and took team offensive honors in August when he batted .292-8-30 in 30 games.

Muecke rebounded into prospect form in 2007 with a record of 9-5 and a 3.90 ERA after suffering through an injury-riddled 2006 campaign. The southpaw led the Hooks in wins and ranked 10th in the Texas League in ERA.

Muecke adapted well as both a starter and reliever, making 16 appearances in each role. By season's end, he'd become the staff ace. Over his last 10 outings, which included eight starts, Muecke went 6-0 with a 3.12 ERA. He earned team pitcher of the month honors in August, posting a 3-0 record and a 2.52 ERA in six games.

Sadler and Muecke will be on hand at the Fourth Annual South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet, set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 15 at the American Bank Center. To secure tickets for this premier event, please call the club at 361-561-4665. Proceeds benefit the Hooks Field of Dreams program.
