Sacramento Republic FC News Release
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (January 8, 2015) - 2014 USL PRO Champion Sacramento Republic FC announced today that they will host San Jose Earthquakes (MLS) in a friendly match on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Bonney Field in Sacramento, Calif. Kickoff is currently scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
"We look forward to the opportunity to enhance our relationship with the Quakes," said Republic FC President Warren Smith. "Through our matches last year and our continued affiliation, we are creating one of the top regional rivalries in North American soccer."
The match will be the third matchup between the two clubs since Republic FC's launch last season. The clubs met last season in an exhibition match on March 5, 2014 at California State University, Stanislaus and then again in a U.S. Open Cup match on June 11 at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. San Jose won both of the previous meetings.
Multiple Quakes players spent time on the Republic FC roster last season through the club's affiliation agreement between Republic FC and the Quakes. Forward Adam Jahn, a Davis, Calif. native, appeared in 22 matches for Republic FC scoring seven goals in 1,493 minutes. Midfielder and Granite Bay, Calif. native Tommy Thompson appeared in 9 matches for Republic FC last season. Thompson is also the first Quakes homegrown player. He was discovered through its academy program in Roseville, Calif. with Cal Blues before signing a four-year deal with the MLS club.
This match will be included in season ticket packages. Details on single match tickets to be announced at a later date. For more information on Republic FC and season tickets, visit SacRepublicFC.com.
