THE GAME

The Mountain Lions (0-2) are seeking their first win of the season while the Virginia Destroyers (2-0) are looking to remain unbeaten. Sacramento has lost to Las Vegas (23-17) and Omaha (33-30) while Virginia has beaten Omaha (23-13) and Las Vegas (34-17). Virginia is coached by MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER while DENNIS GREEN coaches Sacramento. This will be the first meeting between Schottenheimer and Green since December 31, 2006. Schottenheimer and the San Diego Chargers triumphed 27-20 over Green in Green's last game in charge of the Arizona Cardinals. Schottenheimer coached one more game, a playoff loss to the New England Patriots, before being fired by the Chargers. He hasn't been a head coach in the NFL since. Schottenheimer and Green have coached against each other three times as head coaches, each in the NFL, and Schottenheimer is 2-1. Green's Vikings beat Schottenheimer's Chiefs 30-10 in 1993 while Schottenheimer's Kansas City team turned the tables on Green's Minnesota squad three years later, winning 21-6.

MOUNTAIN LIONS HOME GAMES ON COMCAST SPORTSNET CALIFORNIA; KHTK 1140 WILL AIR HOME AND AWAY GAMES

Each Mountain Lions home game will be aired live on Comcast SportsNet California in 2011. The broadcast team includes Grant Napear (play-by-play), Jerry Glanville (color analyst), Mike Pawlawski (color analyst), Mike Lamb (color analyst) and Dan Dibley (sideline reporter). Comcast SportsNet California WILL ALSO AIR THE MOUNTAIN LIONS ROAD OPENER, at Virginia, on Oct. 7. KHTK 1140 will air each Mountain Lions game, home and away, live on the radio. Scott Marsh is the play-by-play man for the KHTK broadcasts while former NFL linebacker Adrian Ross is the color analyst. Ross is a local product from Elk Grove High and he played his college football at Colorado State before playing in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals (1998-2003). The games will also be aired on a www.UFL-Football.com webcast powered by Veetle and sponsored by ConAgra Foods.

MOUNTAIN LIONS ADD THREE NEW PLAYERS

Linebacker SHAWN CRABLE, receiver JAYSON BOYD and kicker JOSE MARTINEZ joined the Mountain Lions this week. All were with the team in training camp this season as well. Crable played at the University of Michigan and was a third-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2008. He was with the Patriots for three years (2008-10), playing in six regular-season games last year and recording four tackles. He played in all eight preseason games in 2008-09. He has also spent time with the New York Jets organization. Martinez and Boyd both starred at UTEP in College and Boyd has spent off-season time with the Oakland Raiders. Receiver REGGIE WILLIAMS and kicker FABRIZIO SCACCIA were released while offensive lineman SAM LIGHTBODY tore his bicep in practice and is on injured reserve.

2010 MOUNTAIN LIONS IN THE NFL

Five players who were on the 2010 Mountain Lions roster opened the 2011 season in the NFL. Fullback TYLER CLUTTS is starting for the Chicago Bears while RICHARD BARTEL is the No. 2 quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals. Defensive back ANDREW SENDEJO opened the season for the New York Jets, playing in the first regular-season game. The team released him on Sept. 28. In addition receiver ROD WINDSOR (Cleveland Browns) and offensive lineman MIKE TEPPER (Indianapolis Colts) are on NFL practice squads. Each NFL team carries eight practice-squad players. Four more 2010 Mountain Lions were with NFL teams during the preseason this year but were cut prior to the start of the 2011 NFL regular season. Among this group are tight end NATE LAWRIE (San Francisco 49ers), kicker FABRIZIO SCACCIA (San Francisco 49ers), receiver JOE WEST (St. Louis Rams) and defensive end AJ SCHABLE (Seattle Seahawks). West is back with the Mountain Lions this year while Scaccia was just cut by the Mountain Lions on Oct. 2. Another 2010 Mountain Lion, linebacker/ defensive end CURTIS YOUNG, won a Super Bowl ring with the Green Bay Packers last year as a member of the practice squad.

BATTLE OF EXPERIENCED COACHES

Sacramento head coach DENNIS GREEN was a head coach in the NFL for 13 seasons (Minnesota and Arizona) and this is his third year as a UFL head coach. He led the California Redwoods to a 2-4 record in 2009 and the Mountain Lions went 4-4 in 2010. The Redwoods moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Sacramento in 2010. He was also the head coach at Northwestern (1981-85) and at Stanford (1989-91) and he won a Super Bowl ring in January of 1989 while serving as an assistant coach for the San Francisco 49ers. Green had a regular-season record of 97-62 while coaching the Minnesota Vikings (1992-2001). He also went 16-32 as the head coach of the Cardinals (2004-06). His overall regular-season record as a NFL coach is 113-94 (.546 winning percentage). Virginia Destroyers head coach MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER has been a head coach of three NFL teams - the Kansas City Chiefs (1989-98; regular-season record 101-58-1), the Washington Redskins (2001; 8-8) and the San Diego Chargers (2002-06; 47-33). His overall regular-season record from his days as a NFL coach is 200-126-1 (.613 winning percentage). This is his first season in the UFL.

MOUNTAIN LIONS RB CORY ROSS CLOSING IN ON 1,000 UFL RUSHING YARDS Sacramento Mountain Lions star running back CORY ROSS, in his third year playing for coach DENNIS GREEN in the UFL, is the league's all-time leading rusher with 942 yards. He will become the first player to rush for 1,000 career yards if he can gain 58 on the ground against Virginia. Ross rushed for 45 yards in the season-opening loss to Las Vegas and sat out Sacramento's next game with a hamstring injury. Ross, the UFL's Offensive Player of the Year in 2010, also is at the top of the UFL's charts in career receptions with 75 . . . Ross played in four regular-season games for the NFL's Baltimore Ravens in 2006 and got into another six games in 2007. As a member of the Ravens, Ross injured his ankle in the final preseason game of 2008 and took an injury settlement.

VIRGINIA's TUSKER ROOTS

The Virginia Destroyers are a successor to the Florida Tuskers, who advanced to the 2010 Championship Game. 17 of the current Destroyers were Tuskers last season. Last year's Tuskers were 2-3 when quarterback CHRIS GREISEN (now the Destroyers' quarterback) took over as the starter and the Tuskers won their final three games to advance to the title game. They lost in the championship game 23-20 to Las Vegas. Sacramento, with DAUNTE CULPEPPER at quarterback, swept the Tuskers last year, winning 24-20 at home and 21-17 on the road.

PREVIOUSLY: Bethel-Thompson started his college career at UCLA but he played at Sacramento State for the last three seasons. He spent the entire 2011 pre-season with the San Francisco 49ers and was signed to the practice squad before being released just before the start of the regular season. He played in five games as a freshman at UCLA and played in 18 games despite dealing with injuries at Sac State.

PREVIOUSLY: Harris has NFL experience with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played in two preseason games in 2010, combining to complete 14-of-21 passes for 116 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. He was released prior to the 2010 season. Harris also played for the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League in 2011.

#10 WR OTIS AMEY 5-10 192 SACRAMENTO STATE 2nd UFL Season

PREVIOUSLY: Amey, who had a record-breaking career at Sacramento State, was with the Mountain Lions for the 2010 season (16 catches, 148 yards). Amey entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers in 2005. He played in 11 regular season games that season and scored a touchdown the first time he ever touched the ball (75-yard punt return). Also played in preseason games for the Atlanta Falcons in 2007. Was an Arena Football League star from 2007-08, combining for 201 receptions for 2,549 yards and 66 touchdowns. Played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League in 2009.

Week 1 (vs. Las Vegas): Caught three balls for 16 yards, his longest reception going for six yards . . . Week 3 (vs. Omaha): Caught three balls for 30 yards, his longest reception going for 20 yards . . .

#15 QB RYAN COLBURN 6-3 220 FRESNO STATE 1st UFL Season

PREVIOUSLY: Colburn was a star at Fresno State over the last two years. He was 227-360 (63.1 %) for 2,817 yards, 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2010 and 181-298 (60.7 %) for 2,459 yards, 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2009. He also ran for five touchdowns over the last two years. He spent part of the 2011 off-season in camp with the New Orleans Saints and says he learned a lot from Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Colburn was born in Sacramento but moved at a young age. He still has lots of family in the Sacramento area.

2011 SEASON

Week 1 (vs. Las Vegas): Completed 26-of-35 passes for 256 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in his first game as a professional. Also ran four times for 10 yards . . . Week 3 (vs. Omaha): Completed 18-of-29 passes for 234 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Also ran four times for 34 yards . . .

#20 RB CORY ROSS 5-6 201 NEBRASKA 3rd UFL Season

PREVIOUSLY: Ross led the UFL in rushing in 2009 as a member of the California Redwoods as he piled up 462 yards on 117 carries. He followed that up with a fantastic 2010 in Sacramento, leading the league in receptions (56) and receiving yards (443). He also gained 435 yards on the ground and scored five total touchdowns for the second year in a row. He was named the UFL's Offensive Player of the Year in 2010. Ross played in four regular season games for the Baltimore Ravens in 2006 and got into another six games in 2007. As a member of the Ravens, Ross injured his ankle in the final preseason game of 2008 and took an injury settlement.

#21 DB RONNIE PRUDE 5-11 180 LSU 3rd UFL Season

PREVIOUSLY: Prude was second on the California Redwoods with 31 tackles in 2009 and was eighth on the Mountain Lions with 22 tackles in 2010. He also led Sacramento with eight passes defended last year. Prude played in 30 NFL regular season games for the Baltimore Ravens in 2006-07, recording 22 tackles, six pass defenses, two interceptions and one touchdown. Also spent part of the 2009 off-season with the Atlanta Falcons.

Week 1 (vs. Las Vegas): Made 4.5 tackles and broke up a pass . . . Week 3 (vs. Omaha): Made 4.5 tackles . . .

#22 DB DENNIS KEYES 6-2 199 UCLA 2nd UFL Season

PREVIOUSLY: Keyes was with the Mountain Lions in 2010. He was fifth on the team with 36 tackles and he also had a pass defended and forced a fumble. Keyes was chosen in the eight round (36th overall) of the 2010 UFL Draft by Sacramento. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals in 2008 and finished the season on the practice squad. Keyes was cut by the Cardinals in August of 2009.

PREVIOUSLY: Played in 15 regular-season games for the Miami Dolphins and was with Miami until 2006. He has also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs (2007-08), Toronto Argonauts (2007-09) and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2010).

PREVIOUSLY: Baylark is entering his third UFL season and his second under head coach Dennis Green and the Mountain Lions. He rushed 19 times for 86 yards and a touchdown for Sacramento in 2010. Baylark has also played for the Arizona Cardinals organization in 2007 and 2008. He played on the practice squad for the Denver Broncos in 2008.

#28 RB JOHN DAVID WASHINGTON 5-9 208 MOREHOUSE 3rd UFL Season

PREVIOUSLY: Washington enters his third UFL season under head coach Dennis Green. He scored two touchdowns as a back-up to UFL Offensive MVP Cory Ross in 2010. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2006 and spent 2006 and 2007 on the St. Louis Rams practice squad. He also played in NFL Europe in 2007. Washington is the son of Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington and appeared as a student in the movie 'Malcolm X', which starred his father in the title role. John David's parents, Denzel and Pauletta Washington, roamed the sidelines for the Mountain Lions home games in 2010.

Week 1 (vs. Las Vegas): Carried the ball five times for 17 yards, with a long of eight yards . . . Week 3 (vs. Omaha): Carried the ball 14 times for 114 yards and a touchdown in his first United Football League start. His longest carry was for 35 yards and he also caught two balls for four yards . . .

He played 96 regular-season games for Tampa Bay and had 74 regular-season starts. He had 11 interceptions, 10 forced fumbles, three sacks and 332 tackles in his time with the Bucs. He played with the Omaha Nighthawks in 2010.

Rushed for 94 yards on 21 carries in the season-opening victory over Sacramento in 2010. Finished the 2010 season second on the team with 241 rushing yards, second to Lorenzo Booker, who joined the Minnesota Vikings following the season. He spent training camp with the Mountain Lions in 2010 and was brought back to the team following the game-one loss to Las Vegas. Finished college with an explosive senior season at UCONN (1093 rushing yards, 14 rushing touchdowns; 112 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown).

Thomas was chosen in the second round (48th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings and played in 63 games for the Vikings (2004-08).
