DESTROYERS LOOK TO STAY UNDEFEATED AS OTHER UFL TEAMS PLAN TO STAY IN 2011 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME HUNT IN WEEK 4
Week 4 of the 2011 United Football League season could have a significant impact on a team edging closer to qualifying for and hosting the 2011 UFL Championship Game.
On Friday at 7pm Eastern, the league-leading Virginia Destroyers (2-0) will play host to the Sacramento Mountain Lions (0-2) at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. Victory for Marty Schottenheimer's unbeaten league leaders along with another bumper home attendance would put Virginia in pole position for the season finale rewards both on and off the field. For the Mountain Lions, it is a chance to halt a two-game slide and get back in contention.
The game will air live on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic in the Hampton Roads region and on the www.UFL-Football.com webcast powered by Veetle and sponsored by ConAgra Foods as DAVE JOHNSON and JERRY GLANVILLE call the game in the booth. Comcast SportsNet California will also air the game in to Mountain Lions fans back in Sacramento.
On Saturday at 5pm Pacific (8pm Eastern) at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, both the 1-1 Omaha Nighthawks and 1-1 Locomotives will look to put themselves in prime position to host and participate in this year's title game by claiming either second place in the standings, or a share of top spot.
Of course, while there is a possibility of having a 3-0 team and another standing at 0-3, all teams could instead be locked at 2-2 after the fifth week of action - if results play out that way.
As part of their home entertainment experience, the Destroyers will feature nationally acclaimed musical group 4Shore at halftime. 4Shore, comprised of Hampton Roads natives Allynn Walker-Bey, Daijreous Poole, Jessie Munn and Brandon Showell will also sing the national anthem on Friday. 4Shore received national exposure last week on a popular Fox television talent show.

WEEK 3 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Offense - Jeremiah Masoli, QB, Omaha Nighthawks and John David Washington, RB, Sacramento Mountain Lions
Defense - Stuart Schweigert, S, Omaha Nighthawks
Special Teams - Jeff Wolfert, K, Omaha Nighthawks
Wolfert set or tied many new UFL standards on Saturday night. His 56-yard field goal in the third quarter now is the longest in league history, and Wolfert became the first player to hit two field goals of 50 or more yards in a game (56 and 54 yards). He also tied a league record by scoring 15 points in one game, connecting on four field goals in a single game and attempting five field goals in a single game.
Rookie signal caller Masoli made his first professional start on Saturday and went 27-for-42 for 283 yards and two interceptions. He also ran for 24 yards on five attempts. Masoli's 35-yard completion to wide receiver Chad Jackson on the final drive of the game helped set up Wolfert's game-winner as he orchestrated the explosive Nighthawks offense.
Washington made his first-ever UFL start in place of injured all-time league-leading rusher and receiver Cory Ross. Washington ran for 114 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, and added two catches for four yards.
Schweigert led the Nighthawks with seven total tackles and added his first UFL interception and a fumble recovery in the victory. His interception in the fourth quarter paved the way for a Noel Devine touchdown run to tie the game at 23.
