Sacramento Bye

THE GAME

The Sacramento Mountain Lions (1-2) are coming off a bye week, and a 20-17 loss at Omaha the week before that. A win by Las Vegas keeps them in at least a tie for first place while a win by the Mountain Lions puts them back at .500. Sacramento quarterback Daunte Culpepper comes in with a passer rating of 87.5, completing 58.8 percent of his passes and throwing six touchdowns in three games. The Mountain Lions have been outscored 56-20 in the first three quarters this season but they have dominated the fourth quarter 31-11. DeDe Dorsey has 162 rushing yards and 190 receiving yards in just two games for Las Vegas. Ed Hartwell leads the team with 21 tackles. The Mountain Lions and Locomotives will meet again on Nov. 6 in Las Vegas.

THE SERIES

In two meetings in 2009, Las Vegas came away victorious twice - and won both in come-from-behind fashion. In the league's first-ever game, the Locos came back from a 14-3 deficit to beat the then-California Redwoods, 30-17. In the second meeting the Locos were down 10-6 going into the fourth quarter and went on to win 16-10.

KEY MATCHUP NO. 1

Sacramento cornerback Ronnie Prude vs. Las Vegas wide receiver Samie Parker. Prude is one of the UFL's top cornerbacks with one interception and four passes defended so far this season. Parker has seven catches for 120 yards and a touchdown in 2010.

KEY MATCHUP NO. 2

Ed Hartwell vs. Sacramento running back Cory Ross.

Hartwell has been more and more active each week as he gets back to his previous National Football League form. Ross is Sacramento's leading receiver, but has gotten off to a slow start in the running game (40 carries, 83 yards).

NEW ADDITIONS TO THE MOUNTAIN LIONS

Sacramento added four new players this week while cutting offensive linemen Mike Tepper and Tavita Thompson, defensive back Willie Glasper and defensive tackle Ekom Udofia. Coming in are offensive linemen Cameron Stephenson and Kevin Myers as well as defensive lineman Eric Moncur and defensive back David Irons. Stephenson has been with the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars. Moncur was released by the Philadelphia Eagles in September after wrapping up his career at the University of Miami in 2009. Irons, who began the season with the UFL's Florida Tuskers, played in 20 NFL games for the Atlanta Falcons from 2007-08. Myers is huge at 6-foot-7, 318 pounds, and he comes from the Arena League.

CULPEPPER SPREADING THE BALL AROUND

Sacramento quarterback Daunte Culpepper has completed 70-of-119 passes for 760 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions through the first three games. He has spread the love so far as Cory Ross (17 catches, 128 yards), Rod Windsor (12 catches, 163 yards, three touchdowns), Taye Biddle (12 catches, 183 yards, one touchdown), Otis Amey (nine catches, 101 yards) and Joe West (six catches, 86 yards, one touchdown) have all put up solid receiving numbers. Amey sat out the Omaha game with a sprained ankle but he is set to return against Las Vegas.

WINDSOR CONTINUES TO FIND END ZONE

Mountain Lions receiver Rod Windsor leads the team with three touchdowns. He scored twice in Sacramento's victory over Florida on Sept. 25 and followed that up with a 47-yard touchdown grab in a loss at Omaha on Oct. 2. Windsor caught four balls against Omaha and led the team with 67 yards receiving. Windsor was a star at Western New Mexico State, catching 81 passes for 1,118 yards and six touchdowns as a senior. He was the quarterback the year before, leading the team in both passing (1,361 yards) and rushing (886 yards). Windsor then starred as a receiver in the Arena Football League before joining the Mountain Lions this year.

BOUNCING BACK FROM A BYE

Mountain Lions quarterback Daunte Culpepper enjoyed having a week off but he was ready to go when practice started on Monday morning. "I got to spend a lot of time with family during the bye and now I'm ready to get back into the football groove." Teammate Cory Ross, Sacramento's star running back, didn't mind getting a week off after suffering a head injury during the Oct. 2nd loss to Omaha. "The bye week was really good," Ross said. "Had a lot of relaxation and lots of healing . . . And getting a win after coming off of a bye week is always important."

SACRAMENTO GROUND ATTACK HASN'T TAKEN OFF

The Mountain Lions have combined for just 146 yards rushing on 63 carries through three games. Hartford held Cory Ross and the Sacramento-ground attack to 35 yards on 20 carries and Florida held the Mountain Lions to 54 yards on 21 carries. Sacramento then gained 57 yards on 22 attempts against Omaha. Ross has rushed 40 times for 83 yards this year and he leads the team in receptions with 17 (for 128 yards). That was also the league-high mark for receptions when the Mountain Lions entered the bye week.
