Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Sacramento River Cats took a 5-3 decision over the Salt Lake Bees on Wednesday night at Smith's Ballpark.

The visitors struck first with a run in the top of the first inning, but the Bees quickly responded with a three-run rally in the bottom of the first on a Jose Rojas sac fly, Matt Thaiss double and Magneuris Sierra sac fly. The River Cats would chip away after tying the game up in the third with a pair of runs and then took the lead for good with runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The Bees put the tying runs on base in the bottom of the ninth but could not find the tying hit. Salt Lake would collect 10 hits but went just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Mike Mayers (0-2) got the start and took the loss for the Bees. Mayers allowed eight hits and four runs (three earned) over 4.2 innings. Austin Warren allowed a hit and a run in a continuation of his MLB Rehab Assignment from the Angels while Brian Moran and Kyle Barraclough combined to pitch a scoreless final 3.1 innings to keep the Bees in it.

Salt Lake and Sacramento will square off again on Thursday night with first pitch coming at 6:35 p.m. at Smith's Ballpark.
