San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2004) – The defending ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats added three Arena Football League rookie free agents to their roster by signing WR/LB CHAD LUCAS, OL/DL STEVE WARREN and DS TREMAIN MACK, announced general manager Terry Malley.

A third-round draft pick (74th overall) of the Green Bay Packers in 2000, Warren (6-1, 305) spent three years on the club's roster playing in a total of 25 games. During his NFL career, the Lawton, Okla., native recorded 31 tackles, a sack, five passes defended and forced a fumble from his position on the defensive line.

A four-year letterwinner at the University of Nebraska, Warren was an Associated Press All-Big 12 selection his senior season after tallying seven sacks among 45 tackles. He was also one of only five true freshmen to play for the Cornhuskers in 1996.

Lucas (6-2, 200) proved to be the top receiving threat in 2003 for NCAA I-AA Alabama State University. He led his squad with 47 catches and 813 yards and placed second with five scoring grabs while helping to lead the Hornets to the Southwestern Athletic Conference Eastern Division title.

Following his collegiate career that started at Troy State, Lucas signed with the NFL's Tennessee Titans last April as an undrafted free agent.

Mack (6-1, 195) spent four years with the Cincinnati Bengals after being drafted in the fourth-round (111th overall) from the University of Miami. During his 44 game NFL career, Mack amassed 3,583 kickoff return yards on 146 attempts to establish Bengals' career records. A Pro-Bowl pick in 1999 as a kick return specialist, Mack led the AFC with an average of 27.1 yards a return including a 99-yard return for a score, the second-longest return in club history, versus Tennessee.

A 1996 All-Big East selection at strong safety, Mack also earned the conference's Special Teams Player of the Year. Widely regarded as one of college football's hardest hitters, Mack left Miami after his junior season to ender the NFL draft.

The recent signings bring to 28 the number of players currently under contract for the 2005 season

The two-time ArenaBowl Champion SaberCats will open their 11th season in the AFL in January. Season tickets are available on the team's official website www.sanjosesabercats.com or by calling a ticket representative at (408) 573-5577.
