Jamal Lomax of Las Vegas High School earns Gladiators\' Ironman Award

Las Vegas, NV, October 19, 2004 – The Las Vegas Gladiators, in partnership with News 3's "Operation: Football" and US Army, awarded Jamal Lomax of Las Vegas High School the Gladiators' Ironman Award for the eighth week of the 2004 high school football season.

The Gladiators and US Army, will honor Lomax by making a $250 donation to the Bonanza High School athletic department.

In Las Vegas' sixth win of the season, the junior running back led the Wildcats to a 49-14 victory over Rancho High School on Friday, October 15. Lomax carried the ball 10 times for 106 yards with one touchdown and had one reception for six yards. On defense, he had 11 total tackles with four for losses and one fumble recovery returned 61-yards for a touchdown.

Lomax also excels off the field well as he holds a 3.6 GPA.

This award recognizes student-athletes who have achieved both on the playing field and in the classroom. These achievements are reflective of the players in the AFL, where the majority of the athletes have skills as two-way performers.

Athletes are nominated for the award by their respective schools based on their weekly performance. Winners are recognized with a certificate presentation at their school with Gladiators' head coach Ron James and News 3 sports anchors Mitch Roberts or Rick Strasser. The presentation is featured on News 3 each week.

The US Army provides direction for detailed planning, preparation and execution of the full range of tasks necessary to provide relevant and ready landpower to the Nation while maintaining the quality of the all-volunteer force.
