San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Oct. 14, 2005) - Quarterback MARK GRIEB, who set an Arena Football League record with 4,796 passing yards last season, signed a one-year contract to remain with the San Jose SaberCats, the club announced today. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"We're pleased to have the best QB in the league back running our offense," stated SaberCats' head coach Darren Arbet. "You can't score 60 points a game in this league without a top-notch QB and that's exactly what Mark is."

Not only did Grieb establish a new AFL record for passing yards in a season in 2005, he also led the circuit in total offense (4,816), pass yards per game (299.8), completion percentage (68.5), passer rating (122.0) and yards per attempt (8.8). In addition he became the 8th player in league history to pass for over 20,000 yards and moved into sixth place in career touchdown passes with 432.

A first-team all-league pick last season, the former UC Davis and Oak Grove High School standout established team season records by completing 374-of-546 passes with 84 touchdowns while leading the SaberCats to their fifth consecutive playoff appearance.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to continue working with people I have a good relationship with," said Grieb. "More importantly I want to continue this run of success and bring another championship to San Jose."

One of the most prolific passers in AFL history, Grieb has thrown for 22,783 yards in his 8-year career and is the league's career leader in pass efficiency with a rating of 124.2.

The league's Offensive Player of the Year in 2002 and a three-time All-AFL selection, Grieb has started every game for the SaberCats over the last three seasons and holds nearly all of San Jose's game, season and career passing records. He had one of the finest performances ever by a professional quarterback in a game at Colorado on April 22, 2005 completing all 15 of his pass attempts for 331 yards and eight touchdowns in an 89-41 win over the eventual league champion Crush.

The SaberCats begin their 12th season of play in the Arena Football League in January 2006. Season and group tickets for the season are available by contacting a sales representative at (408) 573-5577. More information is also available on the club's official website, www.sanjosesabercats.com.
