San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Nov. 28, 2007) - The defending ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats added depth to their defensive line today signing free agent DL Andrew Browning to a three-year contract, the club announced.

A four-year player and three-year starter along the defensive line at Boise State University, Browning (6-1, 268) was a first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection in 2006 posting team-highs of 8.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss.

"Andrew is a high-motor player who had an outstanding career for a winning program," said SaberCats head coach and general manager Darren Arbet. "He will compete for playing time and push our veteran players."

Added to the Outland Trophy watch list during his 2006 senior season, Browning also claimed the Broncos' Defensive Lineman of the Year award in both 2004 and 2005. A starter in all 13 games as a senior, he tallied 5.0 tackles and a half sack in BSU's perfect-season clinching 43-42 overtime win over Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl.

Browning is a 2002 graduate of Lake Oswego (Ore.) High School where he was a three-time Three Rivers League Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team all-state selection.

The SaberCats also signed DB Tyrone Sanders (5-10, 188, Texas Christian), who played briefly with the Arizona Rattlers last season, and waived LB Kurt Kahui and DB Brandon Smith from their roster.

A premiere franchise in the Arena Football League, San Jose last season won its third ArenaBowl championship in six years and has captured seven Western Division titles, eight consecutive playoff appearances and owns the league's best regular season record this decade. The SaberCats begin defense of their AFL title on March 3 in Chicago.
