November 28, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Georgia Force News Release
FLOWERY BRANCH, GA - The Georgia Force today signed 2001 AFL Rookie of the Year and 2002 AFL Lineman of the Year, DE R-Kal Truluck (pronounced: Troo-luck).
Truluck, 6-4, 255 pounds, was originally selected by the Force in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2007 AFL Dispersal Draft. From 2001-02, Truluck was a member of the Detroit Fury of the AFL, where he collared 48.5 tackles, 17.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, two safeties, one pass defensed and one blocked kick in 26 games. He was named AFL Rookie of the Year in '01 and followed his rookie performance by earning AFL Lineman of the Year honors in his second season. Truluck was also named first-team All-Arena in each of his first two seasons in the league.
"R-Kal is an explosive, powerful and athletic pass rusher who will bring a wealth of experience and leadership to our team in 2008," stated Director of Football Operations Jim Kubiak. "We only had one pick in the dispersal draft in October, and when Truluck was still available at the 33rd pick we knew we could not pass on the opportunity to add this great player to our team. With the new rule changes taking place this season, we believe that applying pressure to the quarterback will be more vital than ever before in the AFL. With the addition of Truluck, we now have three All-Arena performers on our defensive line and believe we have assembled one of the best pass rush units in the league."
Following his 2002 campaign, Truluck was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs, where he tallied 12 tackles and a half of a sack in six games. From 2003-05, he spent time with the Chiefs (2003), Green Bay Packers (2004) and Arizona Cardinals (2005) while playing in the NFL. Truluck posted 58 tackles and eight sacks in 41 career NFL games.
"I am excited about returning to the AFL in 2008 and I am thrilled to be doing so with the Georgia Force," said DE R-Kal Truluck. "Following my tour of the facilities and my meetings with the coaching staff, I realized that the Force is the pinnacle of AFL organizations and that they are committed to winning an ArenaBowl championship. I am looking forward to teaming with DE Jermaine Smith and DT Ernest Allen this season in our quest for that championship."
Force season tickets are currently on sale, starting at $9 a game. For ticket information, please contact the Force ticket sales office at 1-888-55-FORCE.
