San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. (April 1, 2004) â San Jose receiver/defensive back and former San Jose State University standout Rashied Davis was today named the Arena Football League's U.S. Army Ironman of the Month for March after helping the SaberCats post a 3-1 record.
For the month, Davis (5-10, 180), who leads the AFL with four kickoff returns for touchdowns, had 10 kickoff returns for 282 yards (28.2 YPR) with two touchdowns in San Jose's four games. He also recorded 15 receptions for 197 yards and three touchdowns, while adding a rushing touchdown on offense.
The second-year veteran recorded 12.0 total tackles, an interception, three p ass breakups and a fumble recovery on defense. An offensive threat, Davis showed his versatility when he made his 1st career start at defensive specialist in San Jose's game at New York on Mar. 7.
An electrifying kick return specialist, Davis tied a team record by returning a kick off for a touchdown in consecutive games. He tied a league and team record by returning a kick off 58-yards for a score against Colorado on Mar. 14 and followed that with a career-high 200 all-purpose yards and another kick return score against Las Vegas on Mar. 20.
This marks the first time that Davis has earned an AFL monthly award.
Other league monthly award winners include Las Vegas Gladiators offensive specialist Marcus Nash (Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player), Colorado Crush defensive specialist Rashad Floyd (ADT Defensive Player), Indiana Firebirds quarterback Adrian McPherson (Rookie) and Detroit Fury kicker Mark Lewis (Kicker).
The SaberCats return to action Sunday, April 4, when they travel to Tampa for a game between the past two ArenaBowl champions. The game will be regionally televised on NBC at 9:00 a.m. (PT). San Jose plays its next home game on Friday, April 16, when it hosts the Chicago Rush. Tickets for that and all remaining SaberCats' home games can be purchased at all Northern California TicketMaster outlets, on-line at www.ticketmaster.com, or in person at the HP Pavilion box office.
