SaberCats Acquire DL Paul Griffin from Tampa Bay

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose SaberCats announced today that they have acquired defensive lineman Paul Griffin from the Tampa Bay Storm.

"We really like the experience level of Paul Griffin" said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "His mindset and work ethic should fit in well with our current roster."

Griffin (6-1, 290, Florida State) is a four year Arena Football League veteran. For the past two seasons, Griffin has been a member of the Tampa Bay Storm. Last season, he started 12 games, recording nine tackles (six solo), along with a tackle for loss and two fumble recoveries. In 2012 for Tampa Bay, Griffin appeared in 17 games, starting 16, and recorded 13.5 tackles (eight solo) in addition to two-and-a-half sacks, a forced fumble and two pass break ups.

Griffin played his first two AFL seasons with the Orlando Predators. As a rookie in 2010, he notched 22.5 tackles (15 solo) and recovered two fumbles. In his second season, Griffin recorded 14.5 tackles (13 solo) and four sacks. He also forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and tallied an interception.

Before joining Orlando, Griffin spent time with the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.

Griffin played college football for the Florida State Seminoles from 2006 to 2008. In 22 career games, he recorded 36 tackles and was the starting defensive tackle when Florida State defeated Wisconsin in the 2008 Champs Sports Bowl.
