
Ryan Commands Bluefish to Victory

(Bridgeport, Conn. - July 1, 2011) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (27-27) won their second straight game behind strong pitching and timely offense. Bridgeport took down the Lancaster Barnstormers (32-21) by a score of 9-2 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday Night.
Pat Ryan (3-4) served seven innings and allowed one run for the winning side. Will Cunnane and Luis Ramos threw a combined two innings of shutout baseball to secure the victory. John Halama (1-2) surrendered eight runs in five-and-two-thirds innings to take the loss for the road team. The bullpen combined for the final two-and-a-third innings while allowing one run.
Lancaster scored the first run of the night in the second. With the bases loaded, Angel Floras served a single to center to provide the road team with a one-run advantage.
Bridgeport tied the contest in the bottom of the inning. After two outs had been recorded, Brock Peterson singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. Danny Putnam grounded a single to rightcenter to push Peterson home.
The Bluefish took their first lead of the night, in the third, and scored three times. With one batter out, Angel Chavez singled and Luis Lopez walked to establish runners at first and second. Wes Bankston smacked a run-scoring double to right to give the Bluefish a 2-1 lead. Steve Moss singled to center to push Lopez and Bankston home to give the home squad a 4-1 advantage.
Bridgeport scored five times in the sixth to break the game open. Angel Berroa drove in two with a double to left. Luis Lopez pushed two runners across with a single to left. The final run of the frame was driven in by Moss on a bases loaded walk.
The Barnstormers scored their final run in the eighth on a solo shot by Ozzie Chavez.
With two hits, Luis Lopez is closing in on the 2,000 hit plateau. The third baseman is 30 hits shy of that mark for his Minor League career.
Bridgeport continues a three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Saturday Night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. The gates open one hour prior to first pitch. Saturday Night is a Fireworks Extravaganza brought to you by Sysco.
