RUSTY RALLIES DUCKS McNamara hits game winning HR to improve team to 3-0

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 3, 2003) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Pennsylvania Road Warriors 2-1 today at Citibank Park for their third consecutive win to start the season. Third baseman Rusty McNamara's home run off Tim Burton to left-centerfield broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning. Once the Ducks got the lead, pitchers Pedro Borbon, Jr. and Oscar Henriquez came in and closed the door on Pennsylvania. Starting pitcher Bryan Rekar went five innings, giving up five hits, walking one and striking out six. Jon Cannon (1-0) relieved Rekar and pitched two scoreless innings to record his first victory as a Duck. Henriquez picked up the save, also his first for Long Island.

Solid defense and pitching kept the Ducks locked in a pitcher's duel for the first six innings. While Rekar kept the Road Warriors off balance, Pennsylvania starting pitcher Brad Whitworth was equally effective. Whitworth went six innings and limited the Ducks to six hits, one walk and one run while striking out four.

Tomorrow afternoon at 1:35 p.m. the Ducks go for a four-game sweep of the Pennsylvania Road Warriors at Citibank Park. RHP Denny Harriger gets the start for the Ducks. He will face Pennsylvania RHP Adam Thomas. Good tickets are still available, as the first 1,500 fans to enter the ballpark will be treated to autograph books, courtesy of Newsday.
