Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Lethbridge, Alberta -- The 2004 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge came to an end Thursday night in Lethbridge and for the second night in a row, it was Team WHL coming out on top.

Brandon Wheat Kings' scoring star Eric Fehr, Medicine Hat defenceman Kris Russell and Dustin Boyd of Moose Jaw each had a goal and an assist as the WHL skated to a 5-2 victory over the Russians before 5,000 fans in Lethbridge.

For Fehr, who leads the WHL with 22 goals entering weekend play, it was his third game in two nights. He finished the 2-game series with three goals and four points while linemate Ryan Stone added three assists.

With the back to back wins in Alberta, the Canadian Hockey League secured the 6-game series by winning four and losing two.

Prince Albert's Kyle Chipchura and Brent Seabrook of the hometown Hurricanes also scored for Team WHL, who was coached by Red Deer's Brent Sutter. Sutter will also be behind the bench later this month at the National Junior Selection Camp at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg and then the 2005 IIHF World Junior Championships in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Before the game last night, the sellout crowd gave a standing ovation to the six Sutter brothers in attendance, who were serving as honorary captains. All six - Brian, Darryl, Duane, Brent, Rich and Ron went on to play in the National Hockey League after playing in the WHL with the Lethbridge Broncos.

The WHL's regular season will resume tonight with eight games including one in Brandon, where the Wheat Kings will look to rebound from last Saturday's disappointing loss to the Swift Current Broncos, when they host the Spokane Chiefs. This will be Spokane's first trip to Brandon in two years.

Tickets to Friday's game are on sale now at the Keystone box office, by calling 726-3555 or on line at ticketmaster.ca.
