PEARL, MS -- Kyle Russell's line drive single to right field drove in Alden Carrithers as the Mississippi Braves walked off with a 3-2 victory over the Tennessee Smokies in game three of a five-game series at Trustmark Park Friday night.

With the score tied 2-2, Carrithers walked to start the bottom of the 11th. After a sacrifice bunt from Mycal Jones, Jose Martinez was hit by a pitch and Christian Marrero singled to load the bases. Kyle Russell then delivered the game-winning drive.

Mississippi (17-11) plated three runs on nine hits while committing two errors. The Smokies (15-12) scored two runs on eight hits. Edward Salcedo led the M-Braves offense with a three-hit night at the plate. Marrero and Russell each added two hits.

Alex Wood entered the game with a Mississippi Braves record 18.2 scoreless innings pitched streak, dating back to April 12. Unfortunately, an unearned run with two outs in the first brought that streak to an end at 19.1 innings pitched. Wood still hasn't allowed an earned run in 22.2 innings.

Tennessee took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Ronald Torreyes reached second on an error by the center fielder to start the top of the first and came in to score on Ty Wright's double to left field.

Alberto Cabrera reached on another error by the center fielder to start the seventh. He took second on the same play. Matt Szczur walked and Cabrera stole third. Torreyes then delivered a single to left field, driving home Cabrera and extending the Smokies lead to 2-0.

The M-Braves loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh. Salcedo doubled and Shawn McGill singled to right field, putting runners at the corners with no outs. Jaime Pedroza then walked to load the bases. Emerson Landoni chopped one to first, allowing Salcedo to score and cut Tennessee's lead to 2-1. Dan Brewer walked to reload the bases for a Jones sac fly, tying the game at 2-2.

The M-Braves loaded the bases again with one out in the eighth and no outs in the ninth but could not score as Trey McNutt and Marcus Hatley shut the door and forced extra innings.

Chasen Shreve (2-0) picked up the win in relief. Frank Batista (1-1) went one and one-third innings, surrendering the loss.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Wood went four innings for the M-Braves. He gave up one unearned run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters. Cabrera worked six innings for the Smokies, limiting the M-Braves to two hits and two walks. He struck out eight batters on the night.

M-Braves right-hander Gus Schlosser (2-1, 4.84) takes on Smokies lefty Eric Jokisch (3-1, 1.84) in game four of this five-game series at Trustmark Park. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM. Gates open at 5:00 PM.
