As the number of days until training camp go down, the number of players on Winnipeg's roster go up.

Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of pitcher Steve Russell and catcher Jordan Lundberg, Russell is a five-year pro recently released by Atlanta while Lundberg is a rookie from Ontario.

Russell, 23, signed with the Braves in 2002 out of high school and has gone 17-17 in 90 games with a 4.46 earned run average. Able to start or pitch in relief, he has seen more action out of the bullpen, going 9-4 with a 3.64 ERA and a .225 opposition average in 48 appearances.

Lundberg, 23, was signed out of the league's recent open tryout in Florida. New to pro ball, he played the past two summers with Barrie of the Intercounty Baseball League, earning Player of the Year honours in 2006 after batting .340 while leading the league with 12 home runs and 40 runs batted in.

Winnipeg now has 26 players under contract, split evenly between pitchers and position players. Training camp opens at CanWest Global Park four weeks from today.

FISH FOOD: Former Fish pitcher George Sherrill (2002-2003) made his second straight Opening Day roster. One of seven relievers in the Seattle bullpen, Sherrill made his 2007 debut on Wednesday, tossing an inning of shutout relief as the Mariners fell 9-0 to Oakland.
