Rush To Support Camp Courage Saturday Night

March 18, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Chicago Rush News Release

The Chicago Rush and Deb Hohensee, wife of head coach Mike Hohensee, will help raise awareness and funds for Camp Courage, a camp for children living with grief, at Saturday night's game at Allstate Arena.

The day camp, which targets children who have lost a family member or friend, is run by the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois and held each summer at Camp Duncan in Ingleside, Ill.

The four-day camp hosts kids who have suffered a loss of a loved one, and features swimming, games, art projects and forums to share their grief in a safe, supportive and fun environment.

"As a hospice nurse, this camp is very personal to me," said Deb Hohensee. "In fact, over the past year I probably have cared for many of the parents or siblings of the kids who will be attending the camp. I have seen first-hand what happens to a family when someone dies and want to make sure these kids get the support they need to help them grieve.

"It is a cause that our entire family supports. Our daughter, Cayla, has begun volunteering at the hospice and Mike supports the program as well."

The cost for the camp is $75 per child, but the Hohensee family's goal is to raise enough money this spring so no child will have to pay to attend the camp this summer.

As part of the fund-raising initiative, representatives from Camp Courage, along with members of the SoBe Adrenaline Rush Dancers, will be stationed at a concourse table during Saturday's Rush game against Colorado.

In addition to passing out literature about Camp Courage, the volunteers will be conducting a raffle, with a John Moyer autographed Rush jersey and a Muhsin Muhammad autographed Bears jersey as the two raffle prizes.

For more information about the camp, fans can call the Center for Loss and Hope at (847) 381-5599, ext. 250, or visit www.hospiceanswers.org.
