Toronto Rock
"Crush The Rush" signs were displayed prominently thoughout the Air Canada Center to greet the visiting Edmonton Rush (0-4) as they got set to battle the Toronto Rock (1-4).
Unfortunately for Rush Head Coach Paul Day, his players heeded the signage.
Sparks of brilliant play were sprinkled among long periods of lackluster play by the Rush.
Toronto mounted a steady attack on Edmonton, building a 5-2 lead in the first period, and never trailing.
Edmonton made several attempts to close the gap, but was thwarted by the Rock's superior stickplay and determination to emerge from this contest with a win. Both teams were winless prior to this evening.
Edmonton scorers included Kevin Howard (3), Jim Quinlan (2), and a goal apiece from Randy Daly, Brad Dairon and Andrew Turner.
Toronto's Josh Sanderson scored three goals and had 8 assists. Aaron Wilson scored 5 goals, Colin Doyle scored 3 goals and Chris Driscoll had two goals. These players combined for 25 assists.
Toronto will head to Calgary to play the Roughnecks on February 5th, while Edmonton will visit the Xcel Energy Arena in St. Paul to take on the Minnesota Swarm on February 3rd.
