Rochester Knighthawks News Release

Game Notes: The Rochester Knighthawks will honor one of their all-time greats tonight on "Tim Soudan Night." The franchise will honor Tim for his 11-year K-Hawk career and his dedication to the sport and the city of Rochester. The ‘Hawks will also host the rival Buffalo Bandits at 8:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. The game will be broadcast live on WB16 and webcast on the B2 Networks.

Recap: Rochester (2-1) enters the week on a two-game winning streak after beating the Minnesota Swarm 12-6 on January 21st at the Xcel Energy Center. The win was the second in a row against an East Division opponent. Goalie Pat O'Toole was the star of the game for Rochester, combining with Grant Crawley to hold Minnesota scoreless for a record 31:37. The loss ended Minnesota's two-game winning streak and dropped the Swarm (2-2) one game out of first place.

Knighthawks Notes: The Knighthawks two-game weekend begins with the Bandits rolling into town for the first of three games this season. Pat O'Toole is second in the NLL with an 8.54 goals-against average among goalies with a minimum of 100 minutes played. Shawn Williams is tied for seventh in the league with 19 points (7+12) in three games. Rookie Shawn Evans has five goals in his last two games. Defenseman Regy Thorpe has three points (0+3) this season, tying his point total from the 2005 season.

Tim Soudan Night: The evening begins with a tribute to Tim Soudan. It is fitting that Soudan is honored tonight, as he scored the game-winning goal for the Boston Blazers in 1994 to end Buffalo's 22-game winning streak. He began his professional career in 1991 with the New England Blazers of the Major Indoor Lacrosse League. He would play three more seasons with the Boston Blazers, earning league All-Pro honors in 1994. In 1995, he returned home to play for the expansion Knighthawks. He spent eight seasons with the K-Hawks and was named to the franchise's All-Time Team in 2003-04. Further, he served as one of the K-Hawks' alternate captains in 2002-03. His best offensive season was in 2000, when he recorded 29 goals and 19 assists in 12 games.

In college, he was a two-time All-American at the University of Massachusetts. In 1994 and 1998, he played for Team USA and won the World Lacrosse Championship. He also played for Team USA in the 2002 Heritage Cup against Team Canada. In addition, Soudan played for the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse from 2001-03.

He resides in Fairport with his wife, Colleen, and kids Kaitlyn and Tanner. Tim works as a physical education teacher for Fairport Central Schools and also works as an assistant lacrosse coach at Fairport High School.

Buffalo Notes: The 2006 edition of the Bandits (2-0) are one of two undefeated teams left in the 11-team National Lacrosse League. Buffalo is tied for first in the East with the Philadelphia Wings (3-1). The Bandits earned both wins against the defending NLL champion Toronto Rock. Last Saturday, Buffalo defeated the Rock, 13-10, by scoring six of the last nine goals. John Tavares led the way with seven points (2+5) to give him 1,064 career points, moving within 27 of the league's all-time leader, Gary Gait.

Head-to-Head: The Knighthawks have a 10-3 lifetime regular season home record against Buffalo. Last season, however, Buffalo won the season series for the first time in franchise history, going 2-1. Rochester responded in the playoffs with a 19-14 victory over the Bandits at HSBC Arena on April 23rd.

Next Game: Rochester ends the weekend with a 6:00 p.m. (eastern time) game in Saint Paul, Minnesota, against the Swarm. The contest on Sunday, January 29th will be webcast on the B2 Networks. The game is the second of three meetings between the two teams. The final installment is Saturday, April 8th in Rochester.

Next Home Game: The Knighthawks host the West Division leading Arizona Sting on Saturday, February 11th at 7:35 p.m. The contest will be webcast on the B2 Networks. The game is the second of a two-game weekend, which begins at Toronto on Friday with a 7:30 p.m. game against the Rock at the Air Canada Centre.
