Rapid City Rush News Release

(Wichita, KS) - The Rapid City Rush fell to the Wichita Thunder by a 6-2 score on Friday night at the INTRUST Bank Arena. Both teams hit the ice again tomorrow night at 6:05pm MST as the Rush conclude their three-game road trip. The contest can be heard live on flagship radio station, 100.3 the FOX.

The Rush got the road start they were looking for, grinding out the first goal of the game. After a shot from Rusty Masters rang off the post, the puck caromed off of Alex Penner and into the net, giving Rapid City a 1-0 lead just 1:08 into the contest. However, the Rush found themselves in penalty trouble early, and the Thunder came storming back with three goals in only a 1:34 span. Ryan Flanigan and Kevin Young scored back to back powerplay goals before Greger Hanson potted an even-strength tally to put the Thunder up 3-1.

Hanson scored back-to-back goals, his second coming 2:46 into the middle period, marking four-straight goals for Wichita. Rapid City stopped the bleeding at the midway point when Rusty Masters backhanded home his first of the season to cut the lead back to 4-2. Unfortunately for the Rush, that was as close as it would get, with Wichita receiving a goal from Nathan Lutz at 16:04 of the second before Neil Trimm iced the 6-2 win with a third-period marker.

The game featured its fair share of physicality as there were a total of four fights and a combined 72 penalty minutes.
