RUSH FALL SHORT IN REGULAR-SEASON FINALE

Calgary AB- Four unanswered goals in the third quarter paced the Calgary Roughnecks to a 14-7 win over the Saskatchewan Rush on Saturday night, ending the Rush's eight-game regular-season winning streak over their Prairie rivals.

The Rush end the campaign with a 12-6 record and will now begin the chase for their third consecutive Champion's Cup title. Saskatchewan will get a bye for the opening round and watch the Vancouver Stealth take on the Colorado Mammoth in the one-game division semifinal. The winner of that game will meet the Rush in the West Division Final.

Calgary (8-10) missed the playoffs for the first time in 14 seasons, but find some solace in finally bringing an end to their run of futility against the Rush. The eight-game slump was further enhanced by the Rush's also beating the Roughnecks in four straight playoff games as well.

The Roughnecks took a 5-4 lead just before halftime and then blew the game open in the third with four goals in a row. Jeff Shattler welcomed Rush backup goalie Tyler Carlson to the net and beat him with a shot from close-in to put the Roughnecks up 6-4. Tyler Digby tipped a shot home to put Calgary up three, and former Rush Riley Loewen burned his old teammates with a hot shot coming down the wing.

Roughnecks star Curtis Dickson increase the lead to five when he leapt from behind the net and tucked the ball to the top shelf.

Saskatchewan tried to start a rally early in the fourth when Adam Jones notched his second of three on the night and Mark Matthews whipped a low shot inside the post on a Rush power play. But the Roughnecks returned to full control of the game with a quick three-goal surge courtesy of Loewen, Dickson, and Curtis Manning.

Curtis Knight and Dan Taylor scored for the Rush in the opening quarter with Ben McIntosh adding one in the second frame when he snared a pass from Chris Corbeil at the top of the crease and slipped a shot past Roughnecks goalie Frank Scigliano.

Carlson and starter Aaron Bold combined for 32 saves in the Rush net.
