Rapid City Rush News Release

(Denver, CO) - At the Denver Coliseum on Saturday night, the Rapid City Rush battled back from a two-goal deficit to force extra time, but the Denver Cutthroats came away with 4-3 shootout win. The Rush play the final game of a four-game series against the Cutthroats tomorrow at 7:05pm and the game can be heard live on 100.3 the FOX.

For the third-straight game, the Cutthroats picked up the game's first goal against the Rush. The tally came at 5:20 when a Rush turnover in neutral ice resulted in a 3-on-1 for the Cutthroats that culminated in Gabriel Beaupre's second goal of the season.

Less than seven minutes into the second period, the Denver expanded their lead when Joel Chouinard slid a centering pass towards the goal mouth that ricocheted off a Rush defenseman and past Neil Conway. With five minutes left in the period, Riley Weselowski sent a wrist shot through a screen created by Jarrett Konkle for his second of the season to cut the lead in half.

The Cutthroats countered with a powerplay goal of their own 8:14 into the final period on a rebound goal by Brad Smyth, giving Denver a 3-1 advantage. With less than six minutes left in regulation, veteran Scott Wray capitalized on a Denver turnover, sliding home his sixth goal of the season from the low-slot. The Rush needed late-game heroics if they were to force extra time, and they received just that from leading goal-scorer Jarrett Konkle. With only 56 seconds remaining and the extra attacker on the ice, rookie Jeff Lee centered a pass to Konkle who snapped in the game-tying goal from the bottom of the left circle.

In the deciding shootout, four of Rapid City's five shooters were denied by Denver goaltender Kent Patterson. However, the Rush did receive a highlight-reel goal from Damian Surma who pinned the puck on the ice with the heel of his stick, moved it in a circle by Patterson, and then snapped a shot top shelf. The Cutthroats had Jamie MacQueen and A.J. Gale both light the lamp and secure the 4-3 shootout win.
