(Bloomington, IL) - With an opportunity to jump up two spots in the CHL's Berry Conference, the Rapid City Rush clipped the Bloomington Blaze 2-1 on Wednesday night. The Rush were able to hold the league's top offense to one goal and twenty-two shots to conclude their road trip with a 3-1-0 record. With the two points, the Rush leapfrog above the Missouri Mavericks and Denver Cutthroats for sole-possession of fourth place. The Rush are finally back on home ice this Friday, February 22nd for the 5th-annual 'Pink at the Rink'. Tickets for the game are available at gotmine.com or by calling the Rush office at 716-7825.
After going nineteen games without a goal, rookie forward Jeff Lee buried his seventh goal of the season on a breakaway at the 5:56 for the only goal of the frame. Rapid City tamed the powerful Blaze offense in the first period, allowing only five shots while firing eleven on Bloomington goaltender Pier Pelletier.
While on the powerplay less than three minutes into the second, another rookie stepped up with a goal for the Rush to make it a 2-0. After solid puck movement along the point, defenseman Jordan Behler snapped a wrist shot that was deflected in by Winston Day Chief for the fourth goal of his young career. With eight minutes remaining in the stanza, the Blaze capitalized on their first powerplay chance of the game with a goal from Dan Barczuk, cutting the lead to one.
After both converting on their first chance of the game, each team had three powerplay opportunities that followed. However, both defenses held strong and the Rush preserved the 2-1 win.
