WEEKEND RECAP: The Barrie Colts posted a 2-1 record over the weekend and currently stand at 6-6-1-0 on the season with 13 points..They are currently two points behind the Brampton Battalion for second place in the Central Division standings..The Colts played shorthanded all weekend with three regulars on defense out of the lineup (Lashoff, Aitcheson, Halstead) with various injuries.The Colts began the weekend with a gutsy effort and a 4-3 victory over the nationally ranked Kitchener Rangers and then followed that up with a 5-2 loss at home Saturday night to Niagara before closing out the weekend with a 2-0 shutout victory Sunday afternoon in the back end of the home-and-home series with Niagara
October 21 @ NIAGARA: The Barrie Colts pulled through with a little redemption Sunday afternoon as they followed up a 5-2 Saturday loss to Niagara at home with a 2-0 shutout loss in their first visit to St. Catharines against the Niagara Ice Dogs....Vladimir Nikiforov extended his points-streak to four games as his fifth of the season at 11:38 of the first period was all the Colts needed....The club stood behind another solid effort in goal by Andrew Perugini as the 19-year old made 35 saves and earned the shutout....Alex Hutchings (4) sealed the victory in the final minute as the Colts improve to 13 points on the season, and are currently third in the Central Division standings....They currently trail the Brampton Battalion by two points, and lead the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors by two points....Tomas Marcinko and Ryan Gottschalk added assists in the effort, which improved their weekend record to 2-1

October 20 vs. NIAGARA: The Barrie Colts started off on the right track building a 2-0 lead in the first period but a second period Ice Dogs surge led to four goals as the visiting Niagara squad posted a 5-2 victory Saturday evening against the Barrie Colts....Vladimir Nikiforov extended his points streak to three games as he registered his 4th of the season just 1:55 in, then 16-year old rookie Mitch Lebar helped pad the lead to 2-0 with his first OHL goal as he placed a nice backhand by Andrew Loverock exactly nine minutes later....From there on in, the Ice Dogs took control, as Drew Schiestel led the way for the Dogs with three points (1g-2a), and Phelpston native Andrew Loverock bounced back making 27 total saves throughout the game....Adam Payerl, Cory McGillis, Tomas Marcinko and Stefan Della Rovere each added assists for Barrie, and second year netminder Michael Hutchinson was tested frequently as he made 39 saves on the 44 shots that he faced

October 18 vs. KITCHENER: The Barrie Colts put forth a valiant effort Thursday night at the Molson Centre as they scored a 4-3 victory over a surging Kitchener Rangers squad....After Kitchener tied the game late and the score 3-3, the Colts were forced to kill off a penalty and while shorthanded Daniel Michalsky (5) scored the go-ahead goal with just 39 seconds left to play....The win puts an end to a three game losing-streak and comes against a Rangers club that drops to 6-2 on the season....Ryan Gottschalk (2), Cory McGillis (6) and Stefan Della Rovere (3) also scored for Barrie, who were led by an outstanding effort in goal by Andrew Perugini...The 19-year old netminder made 39 saves for the victory to improve his overall record to 4-3-1-0 on the season

WHAT'S ON TAP:The Colts face a tough challenge this Thursday as they prepare this week to meet the Soo Greyhounds (12-0-1-0) at the Molson Centre (7:30 p.m.).The Greyhounds have been the class of the league so far this season and were ranked number one in Canada in last week's edition of the CHL Top Ten Rankings...The Colts Friday will travel to the Hershey Centre for their first regular season meeting against the new look Mississauga St. Michael's Majors (5-4-1-0)..The Majors currently trail Barrie by two points for third in the Central with three games in hand..The Colts will then close off their weekend Saturday night at home when they face the Sudbury Wolves (2-10-0-0) at the Barrie Molson Centre (7:30 p.m.)..The Wolves are currently fifth in the Central and have struggled to find the net early in the season after losing much of their veteran presence that led to their appearance in the OHL Finals last season against eventual champions Plymouth Whalers

ROSTER UPDATE: Both defenseman Brett Halstead and Tyson Aitcheson remain listed as day-to-day as they missed all three games over the weekend with upper body injuries...Both their statuses remain questionable for this weekend..Rookie Kevin Henriques was recalled from Tier II Couchiching and rookie forward Marcus Pepe dropped back on defense to fill the void on the back end..In addition, Brian Lashoff missed the weekend games with an ankle injury he suffered during the second game of the regular season..Lashoff is still listed as day-to-day and is looking to make a return for this weekend's games
COLTS PAY A VISIT TO LITTLE:The entire Colts team will make a visit to the Air Canada Centre this Tuesday when the Atlanta Thrashers and Bryan Little make their first appearance to Toronto..Little retired from a four year career in Barrie after he signed at the end of last season with the Thrashers after they selected him in the first round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft...Colts players will leave practice early Tuesday and make the trip to Toronto to see their former teammate
HALLOWEEN FUN-FEST AT THE BMC:The Colts encourage fans to dress in their best Halloween apparel on Saturday October 27th when the club hosts the Sudbury Wolves...During the second intermission, the crowd will judge the top costumes...First place will receive a Barrie Colts private suite plus tickets to a home game; second will win two platinum tickets to a Toronto Maple Leafs home game, and third will win a Colts jersey..In addition to costume judging, free-face painting will be available for kids, and a band will play in the concourse in the intermissions and at Casey's Restaurant & Grill after the game.
