Fairbanks Grizzlies News Release
Ricky Bertz, General Manager and owner of the Fairbanks Grizzlies, announced the signing of (2) returning players and (1) new player for the 2010 season.
Denny Kimmel- 5'9"-220lb, Kimmel will return for his 2nd season with the Fairbanks Grizzlies, hoping to help carry the team further into to the playoffs and accomplishing the team's goal of winning a league championship. Kimmel was a consistent offensive weapon for the Grizzlies in his first season. The Anderson college graduate lead the Grizzlies in rushing yards with 402, rushing attempts with 77, in addition to rushing touchdowns with 8, but he didn't stop there. Kimmel was a receiving threat out of the backfield amassing 32 receptions while accumulating 208 yards, in addition to returning kicks on special teams where he totaled 35 returns for 499 yards and one touchdown.
Coach Ponder on Denny Kimmel-"He is a complete player that showed his versatility all season, I would expect him to be stronger, faster and better after getting a feel of the game last year". Denny was our multiple threat gut and is a complete Team guy.
Antwan Harris- 5'10"-195lb, In addition to Kimmel, Harris will be returning with his backfield running mate for his 2nd season with the Fairbanks Grizzlies. Harris joined the Grizzlies mid-way through the 2009 season, but took very little time introducing himself to his teammates and the Fairbanks Fans with his blazing speed and exciting plays. Only playing half of the season, Harris lead the team in kickoff return yards with 828 in addition to touchdowns with 2. Harris also made his presence felt running the ball for 226 yards and 7 touchdowns while at the same time having 5 receptions for 34 yards on the season.
Coach Ponder on Antwan Harris- "Every time he touches the ball he has the ability to take it to the end zone. He is a dynamic kick returner that teams made a point of not allowing him to touch the ball. He is so quick and fast you blink and he's gone."
Paul Mosley- 6'3 -240 lbs, Mosley is no new comer to the Indoor Football League as he played for the Alaska Wild last season as a running back and linebacker for the Fairbanks Grizzlies instate rival. Mosley was a constant force for the Wild both offensively and defensively. Playing all 14 games last year for the Wild, Mosley ran the ball 115 times for 441 yards, and scoring 12 rushing touchdowns, Paul also contributed as a receiver with 12 receptions for 104 yards to go along with 2 receiving touchdowns. Defensively, Mosley made 36 tackles, 2 sacks in addition to returning 2 kicks for 46 yards on special teams.
Prior to playing for the Wild this past season, Mosley played college football for Baylor University of the Big 12 conference where he amassed 1,718 yards on 407 carries to go along with 17 rushing touchdowns, and also collecting 49 receptions for 323 yards and 4 touchdowns.
In addition to Paul's indoor football and college experience, he also brings with him a small amount NFL familiarity. After college, Paul signed as an un-drafted free agent with the Pittsburg Steelers for 3 months.
Coach Ponder's Comments - "Paul was the one guy we game planned around last year against the Wild, you stop him you stopped the whole Team. We never really stopped him we just contained him at times. He is a power runner that is very hard to bring down and adds the Thunder to Kimmel and Harris Lightning. He showed how gifted he is by playing both was last year at RB and LB and gives us chance to utilize his athletic ability. After the season was over I knew we had to find away to have him in Fairbanks."
