February 7, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Topeka Pilots News Release
Topeka fans were able to get out of the cold Thursday night, kick off their boots, grab some hot cocoa, and warm themselves in front of the fire that is the red hot RoadRunners. Impenetrable defense and steady offense sank the Ice Rays 4-0 in game one of a two-game set.
Ten Runners collected points on the night with Sly Sutter tallying two (one goal, one assist. It was Sutter who scored the game winner late in the first period, finding the net at 17:14 and sending Topeka into the second up 1-0.The goal was Sutter's seventh on the seasonand his first game winner.
Daniel Rzavsky and Jake Kamrass (power play) added goals in the second period to grow the lead to 3-0 and Jasen Fernsler contributed the team's second power play goal early in the third to finish the scoring.
Defensively, the Runners were once again oppressive. The Ice Rays were stymied on all seven of their power play attempts and were held to only 20 shots on goal. PJ Bridges earned his seventh shutout of the season in a return to form after allowing six goals in his last two starts.
The Runners battle the Corpus Christi Ice Rays tomorrow night in the final game of this two-game series. They return to Landon Arena on February 28th. RoadRunner 2014-2015 season tickets are now on sale.
