RubberDucks to Honor Browns Legend Joe Thomas with New Extreme Food Item
March 15, 2018 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
(AKRON, OHIO) - Like many from Northeast Ohio, the Akron RubberDucks are fans of the hometown teams. As such, the team announced today it will honor Cleveland Browns legend Joe Thomas, the newly-retired offensive lineman, by adding a special Extreme Foods Menu item only for the 2018 season.
The new Extreme Food is a sandwich called, "Thanks, Joe!" It features two butterfly-sliced Five-Star Brand bratwursts, covered in craft beer cheese, onions, and peppers, on a hoagie roll. It will be sold at The Dog Pound concession stand for $10, in honor of Thomas' 10 NFL Pro Bowl seasons.
"Canal Park's Extreme Foods Menu is one of the highlights of coming to a RubberDucks game," said RubberDucks General Manager Jim Pfander. For a larger-than-life offensive lineman, we thought there was no better way to honor him than with a larger-than-life sandwich! The 'Thanks, Joe!' will be available every game, just like Joe!"
The "Thanks, Joe!" connects Thomas' two hometowns. The brats from the Cleveland-based Five Star Brand Meats company tie together his native state with Northeast Ohio, and the craft beer cheese is an additional nod to Wisconsin.
"Thanks, Joe!" will be available starting on Opening Night, April 13 at 6:35 p.m. when the RubberDucks face the Trenton Thunder.
The Akron RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The 2018 season, powered by FirstEnergy, will be the franchise's 22nd since moving to Akron.
