Schaumburg Boomers News Release

SCHAUMBURG, IL - Aaron Rozek allowed just four hits in tossing a complete game shutout as the Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, opened Memorial Day weekend with a 3-0 victory over the Joliet Slammers.

Rozek allowed just two runners to reach second base and did not hit 100 pitches in notching the fourth nine-inning complete game shutout in team history. The lefty did not walk a batter and struck out five. The Boomers provided all the support Rozek would need in the second inning with a pair of runs. Quincy Nieporte led off with a single and Nick Oddo followed with a double. A wild pitch allowed the first run to score before a double from Rayden Sierra made the score 2-0. Another run crossed on a wild pitch in the fifth.

The shutout marked the second of the week as three pitchers combined on a 6-0 win over Lake Erie on Tuesday night. The complete game effort was needed a night after five relievers worked seven innings in an 11-inning defeat. Schaumburg finished with eight hits. Sierra, Nieporte and Connor Oliver each posted two hits.

The Boomers (8-5) continue the series with Joliet on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. on Baseball to End Alz! Night presented by Lavelle Law. The end of the night will feature another postgame fireworks display presented by Wintrust Community Banks. RHP Jack Landwehr (0-0, 2.25), a Mt. Prospect native, takes the ball for Schaumburg opposite RHP Scot Hoffman (2-0, 0.42) for Joliet. Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets or call 847-461-3695.
